“Take the energy of worrying what others think of you and put it into yourself—into becoming more confident in who you are.” For their cultural moment this July, PRIDE, Intuitive’s Employee Resource Group (ERG) for LBGTQIA+ employees and allies, invited Katie Sowers, the first woman and openly gay individual to coach in a Super Bowl, to share her story. The event was a stop on PRIDE’s “Rainbow Road”—a months-long series highlighting each letter within the LGBTQIA+ acronym. This incredible series has educated and inspired the broader Intuitive community, with personal stories from our employees, deeply researched history, and calls to action that drive us all toward a more open and inclusive future. As part of this effort, PRIDE is also fundraising for Rainbow Railroad, which helps at-risk LGBTQIA+ people get to safety worldwide, and The Trevor Project, which provides information & support to LGBTQIA+ young people 24/7, all year round. When it comes to getting early answers for lung biopsy patients, small things can make a big difference. Like Ion’s novel shape-sensing technology embedded in its ultrathin catheter. Shape sensing measures the catheter’s full shape hundreds of times per second. Ion displays a 3D real-time view of the entire catheter in the airway, along with a 2D direct view through the vision probe at the tip. And fiber-optic shape sensing is inherently immune to electromagnetic interference. Maybe it’s not such a small thing after all. https://lnkd.in/gHYeRvft

When Dr. Swapna Misra was asked about the ergonomics of robotic-assisted surgery, she said, “You can do five to six surgeries back-to-back without getting exhausted. You can sit on your chair, the camera is with you, and your instruments are with you. Everything is in your control.” In our new Surgeon Spotlight series, we’re exploring the world of robotic surgery through the eyes of some of the most skilled and knowledgeable physicians in the world. Up next, a surgeon, health activist, adventure-seeker, and beauty pageant winner: Dr. Swapna Misra, the director of robotic and laparoscopic gynecology surgery at Fortis Hospital Mohali in Punjab, India

Why is working at Intuitive more than a job? Because often the products we build affect the people we love. That was true for sisters Alece Gallop (senior group manager, corporate campaign marketing) and Eliana Green (people solutions HR partner). Alece has been with Intuitive for more than 13 years and always wanted her sister to join her. Eliana happened to arrive at Intuitive the month their father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He and his doctors decided the best course of treatment was a da Vinci prostatectomy. A retired cardiologist, Dr. Green was “so impressed by his recovery and how easy the procedure was,” says Alece. “Coming from a clinician, to see himself recover quickly and be able to get back to the things that matter to him faster than he expected—it meant so much.” Dr. Green’s experience with da Vinci has made Alece and Eliana all the more aware of the impact all of us at Intuitive work toward every day. “It really makes you want to work for this company and fight for this mission—because we’re helping people,” says Eliana. The question: How can surgical efficiencies help lead to better outcomes? One answer, according to Andrew Hung, MD, and Ankit Patel, MD: leveraging data to quantify how surgeons operate. Intuitive's digital solutions enable surgeons to not only collect data, but also to analyze it. This helps our customers understand what's going well, and where there may be opportunities for growth within their programs. Helping surgeons continuously improve—that's Intuitive.
