Many of IPOEF’s past Awards Celebration honorees have been featured in the Stroke of Genius® podcast. Dr. Luke Haverhals and Mr. Aaron Amstutz (NFW), who received the 2022 Inventors of the Year award, invented categorically new material families to reduce textile waste. These materials are used for apparel, footwear, accessories, automotives, and home goods! IPO Member, Ramya Possett (BlueFoot Inc.), is at the top of IPO Education Foundation’s leaderboard for reaching 350 students with the “IP Education for Next Gen Innovators” toolkit! By connecting with her network in the DC metro area, Ms. Possett was connected to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School and spent a day introducing IP concepts to middle school students. She simplified the toolkit materials and divided students into smaller groups to ensure an effective presentation for each student. She said the students were very engaged with the presentation, excitedly brainstorming their own inventions, and couldn’t wait to share their ideas with their classmates. A teacher from the school shared that many of their educators thought it was their best assembly to date! Consider reaching out to your network to find a local school or student group and bring IP education into your community! Visit IPOEF.org/ip-toolkit/ to download the toolkit today and help IPOEF achieve its goal of reaching 2,500 students by Spring 2025.

The 2024 Awards Celebration honorees will be announced in the coming weeks! Until then, we wanted to reflect on the past winners who have been an inspiration in the IP community and beyond. Like 2021 IP Champion, Dr. Lisa D. Cook, who was honored for her research into the lack of representation of African American inventors on patents. Without her research, the innovation community would not be aware of how the lack of safety of Black citizens impacted innovation and therefore hindered economic growth. Listen to the season three episode of Stroke of Genius® where Dr. Cook shares more about her work and the obstacles she encountered: https://lnkd.in/gPMvKm_s #tbt #throwback #intellectualproperty #patents

IPOEF's annual Awards Celebration recognizes achievements in innovation, creativity, and IP. At our 2023 event, PBS Newshour Classroom spoke to some of the honorees about their journeys and the history behind their inventions. Dr. Cato T. Laurencin (University of Connecticut), discussed the crucial contributions of Black inventors in U.S. history, many of whom did not receive recognition for their work. Audrey Larson shared how her concerns about climate change and gun violence motivated her to invent. Take a look at the article below to learn more.

IPO Board Member, Ceyda Maisami (HP Inc.), recently celebrated World IP Day by engaging 40 elementary school students using IPO Education Foundation’s "IP Education for Next Gen Innovators" toolkit. Ms. Maisami coordinated with her children’s teachers to organize sessions that introduced the students to the concepts of IP using the toolkit. She said these sessions were not only playful and interactive but also served as a catalyst for the young minds, inspiring them to explore their creativity for coming up with their own inventions. Download the toolkit today and help IPO Education Foundation achieve its goal of reaching 2,500 students by Spring 2025! Visit IPOEF.org/ip-toolkit/ to learn more about the toolkit and use the materials in your community.

IPO Education Foundation reposted this
“We want young people to see the possibilities of their ideas, which means we also have a responsibility to help them protect those ideas." Thank you to BuzzEngine and Aaron Wartner and Kristen Lurye at INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OWNERS EDUCATION FOUNDATION (IPOEF) for allowing us to share why we believe young people need to be actively engaged in the world of intellectual property. #EiPIC brings the world of IP alive from "content to company" to students around the globe and from all demographics because innovation comes from everyone, everywhere.
