Visual narratives are transforming osteoarthritis (OA) care by shifting from an impairment narrative to a participatory one. Cognitive learning theories suggest that stories, including those in graphic medicine, help patients better understand their condition and treatment options. While infographics and videos are commonly used, there's a gap in graphic medicine resources. 📍Spotlight on the state of arts and health in Singapore 🇸🇬 As Singapore addresses evolving challenges like aging and mental health, the arts are becoming integral to health and social care. Early efforts set the stage for using arts in health, including the 1993 Very Special Arts program, a program to nurture creative talent in people with disabilities. Since 2000, the field has expanded significantly. #has24 Recap 23/8/2024: Healing Arts Scotland: Islands Day, Orkney📍 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Last week, the Jameel Arts & Health Lab team along with Scottish Ballet embarked on a journey to Orkney for Healing Arts Scotland Islands Day. The day kicked off with a closed session with local representatives, and NHS Orkney leadership at the University of the Highlands and Islands UHI to a panel discussion with Lab Co-Directors Dr Nisha Sajnani, PhD RDT-BCT & Christopher Bailey. The day ended with a visit to Balfour Hospital (NHS Orkney) where dance workshops, jazz music, and theatrical performances took place, where the arts and their healing properties were caught in action. Other community events on the island included the Kite in Solidarity project - a large scale kite flying project as a symbol of unity with Palestinian communities.
