Johns Hopkins Hospital recently welcomed about 70 students from Forest Park High School to several of our pathology and clinical laboratories. Students received tours of the surgical pathology, transfusion medicine, microbiology and core lab where they had a chance to meet laboratory staff and see operations such as microscope slide preparation, tissue analysis and other clinical testing. The tours were part of ongoing initiatives to introduce high school students to pathology professions and highlight efforts in these labs that are rarely seen by the public.

“We provide a safe and nurturing space for interns,” says supervisor Melody Rorabeck. “We hope to give them a positive experience and help them learn what is going on behind the scenes. We put them in a space where they can be team players and observe other people’s teamwork. Everyone has a special role, and efficiency is key.” https://bit.ly/4dt9mh7

Theodore DeWeese, dean of the The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine, led the second community walk of the summer around the Johns Hopkins Hospital campus and Eager Park a few weeks ago. The walks, designed to provide an opportunity for Johns Hopkins faculty staff and students to connect with each other and the communities surrounding Johns Hopkins, were hosted by Johns Hopkins Government, Community & Economic Partnerships. Dean DeWeese was joined by over 40 community members, including speakers and vendors from the HopkinsLocal initiative, which works to lift up local and minority-owned businesses and Johns Hopkins investment in Baltimore City and its residents.
