KOA franchisee Mark Lemoine has been announced as the senior vice president of Franchise Operations for Kampgrounds of America, Inc. Lemoine has owned and operated the Coloma/St. Joseph KOA Holiday in southwest Michigan since 2016. Before buying a franchise, Mark amassed over thirty years of experience in government affairs and business consulting. "It's been an incredible journey filled with faith, risk, hard work, and the reward of serving our guests," said Lemoine. "I'm honored to have demonstrated that the American Dream is alive and well and to now have the opportunity to contribute to the growth, innovation and success of my fellow KOA franchisees." Since the inception of our annual industry report a decade ago, the growth in family camping has continued to provide generational opportunities for the future. KOA's Families and Kids edition of the 2024 Camping & Outdoor Hospitality Report dives deeper into the more than 118 million families who camped between 2020 and 2023. 👨👩👧 More than 3/4 of family campers say that camping improves their relationships. 👨🏽👩🏽👧🏽👧🏽 New camping families are more diverse; 38% are white compared to 62% of experienced family campers. 👴🏼 37% of grandparents take their grandkids on at least one camping trip without the children's parents. ⛺ Family campers tend to be more avid, with 34% taking three or more trips in 2023 (compared to 23% of non-family campers). 🏊🏻♀️ Families who camp at campgrounds with a lot of services and amenities are some of the most satisfied, with 80% saying their experience was highly favorable. Yesterday, we celebrated our new headquarters in a dedication ceremony that honored our partners, dedicated employees, and our ongoing commitment to the outdoors and sustainability. Envisioned by Billings, MT-based A&E Design, KOA's 35,000-square-foot building earned LEEd Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its sustainable design. "KOA was founded 62 years ago with a very modest campground on a plot of land next to the Yellowstone River and we're now the world's largest network of privately owned campgrounds and the definitive leader in outdoor hospitality," said Toby O'Rourke, CEO and president of Kampgrounds of America, Inc. "We felt that a company of that magnitude deserved its own home, not only as a home base for our 1,500 employees across the country but for our 500 franchisees; this is a big deal." Yesterday, we honored Independence Bank, a long-time friend of KOA and our franchisees, as one of our "foundational partners." When we designed our new office, we created a space to recognize organizations that have been pivotal to our company's growth and success over time. We were proud to formally recognize and thank them. Independence Bank, headquartered in Havre, Montana, has allowed our franchise business to flourish by becoming one of the few financial institutions that learned the business of campgrounds and invested in our franchisees as they borrowed to buy and expand their operations. Nearly $700 million in loans have been given to over 250 locations in our system over the past twenty years. Who is the North American camper? KOA's Camper Profile, the sixth release of the 2024 Camping & Outdoor Hospitality report series, shines more light on the millions who call themselves campers and how the camping audience has changed over the last decade. Findings include: 📈 Camping households have increased by 68% since 2014, resulting in over 53.6 million active camping households in 2023. 👨👩👧 60% of campers began camping before age 18, fostering a lifelong love for the outdoors. ⛺ The average camper spends 6.7 nights camping annually and expends $156 a day in local communities. 🛜 New campers are more diverse and connected, with 48% considering Wi-Fi the most important campground amenity.
