We are pleased to hear that Joshua had a successful summer internship, gaining valuable insight into real-world projects and MEP opportunities in the industry, thanks to the support of our team in Texas.
Last week I completed my summer internship at KCI Technologies, Inc.! It was an incredible experience and I had the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of engineering consulting as a mechanical engineer: I traveled to and conducted site visits for commercial buildings. I drafted and designed mechanical plans in Revit and filled out/submitted review sets and permit sets for clients and project engineers. I performed calculations, sized, balanced, and selected mechanical equipment. I coordinated with clients, architects, and other sub-consultant disciplines including electrical and plumbing engineers. Being able to learn about HVAC design and work on real-world projects gave me a taste of how everything I'm learning applies to real-world problems. A big thanks to Clay Clements, P.E., and Christopher Clements, PE, LEED AP for the opportunity! I also want to thank Samuel Arce-Chang, Sierra Baumbusch, Justin Dubar, and everybody else in the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing teams for bringing me onto their team so easily and teaching me everything they did!

KCI’s summer internship program reflects the exciting opportunities for students to explore day-to-day life in the industry and gain valuable experience. We are so glad Morgan’s time with us has been informative, welcoming, and enjoyable!
Upon tomorrow, I will have completed my first summer internship with KCI Technologies, Inc. I cannot begin to express how amazing this team was, and the plethora of information i’ve learned which will be easily applied in future classes. I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with such awesome people, for a great company. I learned the ins and outs of different CAD softwares, the planning and process of completing engineering projects, and even a bit about structures and bridges. My amazing mentors taught me more than I could have ever imagined and the experience of working with KCI was phenomenal!

Our Communications Infrastructure team was proud to be a part of the recent project and demonstration of the Ma and Pa Heritage Trail’s security camera system in Bel Air, Maryland. Showcasing the coverage and AI capabilities, the system uses 104 cameras mounted on 24 poles to provide an almost 360-degree live view of the trail to help detect unusual activity and alert law enforcement and emergency first responders.

Congratulations to Holly Painter, PE on graduating from the Florida Engineering Leadership Institute’s Class of 2024! Focused on finding the best ways to positively impact their communities and the future of engineering, her class established a partnership with Feeding Florida to serve food banks as well as FDOT to promote AASHTO STEM Outreach and Workforce Development within the community.
