Keystone is proud to have partnered with Amazon again on their latest annual economic impact report. In collaboration with Amazon, Keystone economists analyzed the company's investment data to assess its impact on communities worldwide. What did we find? In the U.S. alone, Amazon has contributed over $1 trillion to GDP since 2010 and supports almost 5 million jobs across the country – both through direct employment and the opportunities that spring up around their community investments. For more than a decade, the IRS has debated with taxpayers how to address group membership in transfer pricing for intercompany financial transactions, but until a few months ago had never taken an official position on the matter. In December the IRS published a generic legal advice memorandum (GLAM) on the topic. And while it did definitively state group membership is a relevant circumstance to consider, it did not offer practical advice on how to determine its effect, leaving taxpayers in limbo until the matter reaches the Tax Court for clear direction. Keystone’s Abraham Isgur recently discussed the GLAM and its implications for economic analyses on a panel at the National Association for Business Economics (NABE)’s 2024 Transfer Pricing Symposium. For many iPhone users, making in-store purchases with Apple Pay is second nature. But unlike Android, Apple has restricted the use of this "Tap to Pay" technology so users can only use Apple Pay – something many regulators have taken issue with. Earlier this month, Apple agreed with the European Commission to a number of changes in the EU, opening up this technology to competitors.
