Our volunteers always add sweetness to the patient and visitor experience so it was nice to treat them to something sweet. At a friends and fondue gathering, a group of volunteers enjoyed a chocolate fondue fountain with fruits, marshmallows, and cookies to enjoy. We appreciate all that the volunteers do for the employees, patients, and visitors.

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Lakewood Ranch Medical Center CEO, Andy Guz, to CEO at Manatee Memorial Hospital | Manatee Health, effective Sept. 16. Andy has served as CEO at LWRMC since 2016. Under his leadership, the hospital has received numerous national quality, safety, and patient satisfaction awards. Additionally, he has been responsible for growth strategies that included a freestanding Emergency Department, a renovated Women's Center, the addition of robotic technology, and most recently, the groundbreaking for a new patient bed tower. We want to give a shout-out to our awesome Education team - registered nurses Jacki (manager) and Cara (coordinator). These leaders have significant experience in nursing and their role is to ensure that both novice and experienced clinicians obtain and maintain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to deliver quality care to our patients. These two healthcare professionals serve as mentors, role models, and preceptors who are essential in professional staff development. Thank you for all you do!

We celebrated ICU charge nurse, Caitlin who received the July Spotlight Award earlier this week. Caitlin was recognized for her skills as a caretaker with her nomination noting how she "played an instrumental role in stabilizing a patient prior to airlifting for lifesaving surgery." She was celebrated for her supportive nature and ability to multi-task in her role. Caitlin is a great leader who works with purpose and intentionality and we are honored to celebrate her.

Director of the Women's Center, Johanna Pumphrey, RN, MBA, says her job is very rewarding. In addition to being there for the special moment in a new Mom's life, she says she's surrounded by a wonderful team of caregivers.

During #NationalBreastfeedingMonth, we recognize the support our lactation consultant team members provide new moms. Breastfeeding helps lower baby's risk of certain diseases and infections; helps baby feel safe, warm, secure, and loved; helps mother recover more quickly from childbirth; reduces the mother's risk for certain cancers and diabetes and provides nutrition to help babies grow and develop.
