ILFI has certified the 100th project to receive a Petal, Core, or LBC certification. One Riverstone is a 3.1 Energy Petal single-family residence in Bend, Oregon. Designed by Tozer Design, this home is located near the Bend River. The owner wanted a home that celebrated its surroundings, focusing on native landscaping, optimizing the views in every room, as well as thoughtful exterior design choices to allow the building to blend into its surroundings. With over 20 kW of PV capacity located on-site, the project can generate 108% of the occupants' energy needs. You can learn more about achieving Petal Certification on your home here: https://lnkd.in/e3QwqDx #LivingBuildingChallenge #PetalCertification #LivingFuture #ILFICertified #RegenerativeDesign #SustainableBuilding

Are bio-based materials the future of regenerative building? And which ones are truly worth growing? These questions are complex, and BuildingGreen's latest report does an excellent job of diving into the nuanced conversation around bio-based building materials. We’re grateful to BuildingGreen for featuring the Living Building Challenge and its approach to regenerative materials in this piece. We're also proud to see our CEO, Lindsay Baker, share her insights. Here are a few of her thought-provoking quotes: - “It’s important to celebrate and highlight buildings that visually incorporate natural materials into the architecture.” - “Bio-based shouldn’t be used synonymously with low carbon.” - “We need better policies that encourage a truly low-carbon built environment, not just lower-carbon products.” We’d love to hear your thoughts on bio-based materials in the comments! The Philosophy of Sustainable Design by Jason F. McLennan is an essential read for anyone studying or working on regenerative architecture. “The Philosophy of Sustainable Design goes well beyond its title. It not only gives the foundation but the fundamentals—it is a workbook, source book and a thinking book all at once. An instant classic!” —Pliny Fisk III, Co-Director, Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems “With passion and clarity Jason F. McLennan has traced the past, present and future of green design. While he covers technologies and techniques, he focuses on what is really important about this movement: how these buildings affect our lives” —William D. Browning, Founder, Green Development Services, Rocky Mountain Institute “Jason F. McLennan has achieved “Plus/Ultra” with this book. It is an elegant balance of art, philosophy, technology, and materials similar to the design, construction, and operations of a high performance green building!” —Kath Williams, Ed.D. Published originally in 2006 this evergreen design philosophy still instructs and inspires professionals across the globe.
