Über uns

We are The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the largest nonprofit dedicated to creating a world without blood cancers. Since 1949, we’ve invested more than $1.3 billion in groundbreaking research, pioneering many of today’s most innovative approaches. We work tirelessly to find cures and ensure patients can access the lifesaving treatments they need. When someone experiences the fear and uncertainty of a cancer diagnosis, we provide hope, compassion, education and support. And we are making an impact in the cancer community. More than 70 years of fighting blood cancers has led us to a game changing belief. The cures for cancer are in our blood. We focus on three key areas: Research We are the largest nonprofit funder of blood cancer research. Advocacy We advocate at the state and federal level for policies to ensure blood cancer patients have access to affordable care and the most innovative therapies. Patient Support We are the leading source of free information and support for blood cancer patients, including help finding appropriate clinical trials. Within our Mission, we are committed to providing information, resources and support to those affected by blood cancers through various campaigns, including, Team in Training, Light the Night, Man & Woman of the Year, Student of the Year, Big Climb, and Hero Squad. • “I would have different pains throughout my body, but I didn't think much about it and would ignore them for the most part. There were so many emotions involved with a myeloma diagnosis. I could not believe I was going through this. I feared for my children and running out of time with them.” An estimated 157,561 people in the United States (US) are living with or in remission from myeloma, a blood cancer. Although it is “incurable,” it is not untreatable. After hearing about The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) from a social worker, Elizabeth has been able to receive support that benefited her and her family for the past few years. Thanks to a matching gift from the Big Nova Foundation and The Moore Family, your donation to LLS through 9/30/24 will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $250,000. • “I share Vera's experience with B-cell lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), a blood cancer, to spread awareness for childhood cancer and the need for more resources, funding, and safer treatments. As a caregiver, you advocate for a child who cannot. Don't be shy to ask for second opinions, ask other cancer caregivers, and ask the oncologist to take the time to explain things. I had zero medical background before my child's diagnosis, but it has been through my questions that I have become more confident in advocating for her. Give yourself grace; you are doing your best with what is in your control." Monica's experience is all too common for parents; it can be overwhelming without a support system, or resources. September 4th is #WorldLeukemiaDay, and Monica and Vera’s story reminds us of the ongoing need for awareness, research, and advocacy on behalf of patients and survivors like Vera. September is Blood Cancer Awareness and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Let's raise awareness and funds for the future of #BloodCancer patients, like Vera. Thanks to a matching gift from the Big Nova Foundation and The Moore Family, your donation to LLS through 9/30/24 will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $250,000. • “Chronic illness just goes on and on and on and on and on. And the cost of chronic illness goes on and on and on. How do I maintain a quality of life with a chronic illness? I realize that I can't do some things that others can, and I make lifestyle changes to accommodate for an illness that is never going away. There is no cure that I'm aware of for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) today.” On September 1st, the global CLL community comes together to raise awareness about this disease. For most people, CLL is diagnosed before symptoms occur and is usually found in routine blood work, tests, or physical exams for another health issue. We strive for individuals like George, affected by CLL, to have more time with his family, on the golf course, and living with chronic #BloodCancer. September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is dedicated to sharing experiences and giving patients, volunteers, and healthcare professionals a platform. Thanks to a matching gift from the Big Nova Foundation and The Moore Family, your donation to LLS through 9/30/24 will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $250,000. • "Every step along the way, my mom's care team kept mentioning how the outlook for patients like my mom was so much better now than it had been even 10 years ago, thanks to advances in medicine. My mom participated in a research study during her first round of chemotherapy. She was constantly discussing the variety of treatment options available to her, thanks to new trials and approved medications. My family later found out that an overwhelming majority of these treatments and medications were available to my mom thanks to funding and support from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). I was so thankful to LLS for giving my mom the best odds possible with her leukemia (a blood cancer). My mom was my biggest supporter during my marathon training, just like she had been throughout my life. Whenever training got tough and I didn't think I could run another mile, I drew inspiration from my mom's determination with her leukemia and from the idea that I could be making life just a little bit easier for someone else diagnosed with blood cancer in the future. We had hope and time with my mom after her diagnosis because of treatments and medical advancements funded by LLS. I found purpose and a way to feel my mom through Team In Training. Eventually, we will find a cure for #BloodCancer because of support for LLS inspired by people like my mom." - Katharine, daughter, marathoner, and teammate. During #NationalGriefAwarenessDay, we remember those who help improve the outlooks for future treatments for blood cancer patients, like Katharine's mom and so many others. Curing blood cancer and improving lives are a team effort. Find your event today 👉 https://bit.ly/470DRJb
