The mission of Lyon-Martin Community Health Services is to provide compassionate and trauma-informed medical, gynecological, and mental health care services to trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, and intersex (TGI) communities and cis-gender women with sensitivity to LGBQA+ sexual orientation, disability, race, ethnicity, and language regardless of immigration status or ability to pay. Founded in 1979, by a group of medical providers and health activists as a clinic for lesbians who lacked access to nonjudgmental, affordable health care, the clinic soon became a model for culturally sensitive community-based health care. The clinic was named after Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin, feminists and well-known LGBTQ civil rights activists.

  • 🌟 Staff Highlight: Meet Jessica! 🌟 We're excited to introduce Jessica Wilson, MS, RD our Dietitian at Lyon-Martin Community Health Services. Jessica is a trauma-informed dietitian with 15 years of experience working with clients affected by eating disorders, particularly those impacted by systemic inequities. She has worked at the University of California, Davis, the University of Oregon, and  in private practice, bringing expertise in addressing the structural causes of disordered eating. 🗣️ "I am passionate about shifting the healthcare narrative to target the structural inequities and violence that marginalized individuals endure, rather than designating individual identities as risk factors. I am excited to support the development of Lyon-Martin's eating disorder program and address the unique challenges faced by BIPOC and QTI individuals." Jessica is also the author of It’s Always Been Ours: Rewriting the Story of Black Women’s Bodies, a book exploring the connections between anti-fatness, anti-Blackness, and eating disorder development. Her work has been featured in ABC Prime Time News, the New York Times, and the Washington Post. Her podcast, Making it Awkward, encourages critical thinking about food and bodies to inspire societal change. At Lyon-Martin, we believe our communities are best served by us and for us. Being peer-led is central to our mission of providing high-quality, compassionate, and trauma-informed care. We are committed to eliminating health inequities by rooting our practice in intersectionality, anti-racism, reproductive and disability justice, self-determination, and harm reduction. Jessica’s expertise and passion are invaluable assets as we work towards our vision of health equity for all. Join us and be part of a team that’s dedicated to making a difference! 🌈 For open roles, visit: lyon-martin.org/careers 🌱

I'm incredibly honored and excited to share our brand new toolkit with you! 🎉 Gender Affirming Harm Reduction: A Toolkit for Syringe Service Programs is the result of nearly a year and a half of work that drew extensively on my experiences with harm reduction programs in NYC that require guidance in truly meeting the needs of TGNCNB PWUD and engage in s*x work. It came alive with the help of the folks at Trans Equity Consulting (shout out to Mateo Belen, MSW, ari jáuregui & Diana Wilkins) and with the support of National Harm Reduction Coalition. We have dedicated this resource to the late trans visionary and Founder of Trans Equity Consulting, Cecilia Gentili, who supported the project from its inception until her passing earlier this year. May it honor her incomparable legacy and the indelible mark it left on all of us. ❤️ Not only does this toolkit offer guidance for these programs, but more importantly, it holds them accountable for what they are doing -- and not doing for our communities. In it, you’ll find: ✅ Organizational assessment to highlight areas for growth and opportunities 💡 Information on chemsex, overdose response & prevention, s*x work, how to take a more affirming sexual health history, and more. 💭 Self-reflection questions to guide understanding as you move through the toolkit 🛠️ Resources to continue learning and expanding your knowledge! 🚨 **Please note that the toolkit is currently formatted to be viewed on a desktop. If you'd like to view it as a PDF, visit bit.ly/LLCToolkit2024PDF** 🔗 Access the web-based version via https://lnkd.in/erN6Kqfc 🗓️ We will hold a webinar to give you a deeper look into the toolkit on Sept. 25 from 12 - 1 pm EST. ASL & Spanish interpreters will be provided! 🔗 To register: bit.ly/GACWebinar24

  • Help Lyon-Martin secure its forever home, for generations to come. 🌈✨🌱 225 Valencia St. is a beautiful, stand-alone, 3-level building that will more than double our space to 17,000 square feet. Just blocks from our current and previous locations in the historic Lesbian Corridor & American Indian Cultural District in the Mission, this building was formerly the American Indian Cultural Center. We are excited about the possibility of reclaiming this space for our LBTQIA+ BIPOC communities and combating further gentrification in the area. Lyon-Martin has a unique opportunity to secure financing for construction, but we need your help to reach our $2M fundraising goal by the end of June! We are 85% there – help us cross the finish line! Donate today and be part of this historic moment! 🌈✨ Visit www.savelyonmartin.com for more info
