Lyon Shipyard, Inc. proudly serves as a full service ship repair facility with over 90 years of continuous service to the U.S. Navy and Maritime Industry in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Located only minutes from downtown Norfolk, Lyon Shipyard is readily accessible by way of the eastern branch of the Elizabeth River. As one of the leading marine contractors on the east coast, Lyon Shipyard is proud to provide our customers with high quality marine repair held to the highest standards of our quality assurance department. We at Lyon Shipyard supply our customers with services including, but not limited to, marine electronics repair, barge repair, pier side repairs as well as hauling vessels out of the water for underwater repairs to equipment such as propellers, tailshafts, rudders, keel coolers and hull plating. Location Our location is convenient to the Chesapeake Bay, inland waterway, Atlantic Ocean, the U.S. Naval Base in Norfolk, and the Naval Amphibious Base at Little Creek, which allows us to provide fast and efficient service to our customers. Lyon Shipyard prides itself on a rich and colorful history. Established in 1928 by George C. Lyon, Sr., through the acquisition of numerous facilities and equipment, our yard has grown in the ship repair industry for over 80 years. With roots that grow deep and strong, Lyon Shipyard has developed in its current location with the dedication and support of our loyal employees, and customers that return year after year for high quality repairs and maintenance they have come to expect from Lyon.

Rate of Pay: $28.94 to $39.00, if qualified. Ship Fitters must have strong math skills and a good mechanical aptitude. Fitters build in-place all interior structures, hatches, doors, bulkheads, etc., to complete all the steel work in the ship. Fitters are expected to climb and work in high areas or crawl and work in cramped confine spaces and perform tasks with all kinds of working conditions in-between. A fitter will apply their skills in the shops, platens, dry-docks and onboard ships in support of, ship repair and ship overhauls.
