(1 min read) Meet MJ, one of our regular volunteers with NewPath Child & Family Solutions. MJ has served in several areas in our processing center over the last year, and shared that his experience volunteering at Matthew 25 has helped him grow his social, communication, and leadership skills, allowing him to secure his first job! "This is a major milestone in his behavioral journey," MJ’s therapist shared with us. Volunteers play an essential role in our work by helping us prepare donated goods for shipment to those in need locally, nationally, and internationally. Working different stations, such as sorting personal care items, prepping clothing, and pairing gloves, has helped MJ to greatly improve his adaptability to change, follow directions, and boost his overall confidence. MJ is so encouraged that he's been able to develop these skills and feels good knowing that the time he gives is helping to bring hope to the poorest of the poor and disaster victims throughout the U.S. and around the world. He was shocked by the scenes of poverty and disaster the first time he went on our Global Village tour, and is so glad he is able to be a part of caring for these places in need. When homes are flooded, water damage and mold leave clothing soiled and furniture, carpets, irreplaceable family items, and so much more unsalvageable. Access to clean clothing can bring a sense of relief, offering help and hope as people work to clean up their homes. This week, our team, with Tide Loads of Hope, washed, dried, and folded laundry for those affected by Tropical Storm Debby. The team also provided everyday essentials such as Procter & Gamble personal care kits, Bounty paper towels, Charmin toilet paper, Pampers diapers, and more. Many were left without power this week due to extreme winds and flooding caused by Tropical Storm Debby. The storm itself is devastating, but the loss and emotional impacts are even longer lasting. Affected communities will likely be rebuilding their lives and homes for months to come. We are so thankful for our partners such as The Duracell Company and their PowerForward program for helping us support these areas in need.
