Marjot Foundation

The Marjot Foundation funds independent research projects on environmental issues by high school students. Motivated students or teams of students in grades 8-11 from New England and New York are welcome to apply for Marjot Foundation grants. Students who receive these grants are awarded $5000 to complete a one-year field and/or laboratory research experiment that they have designed. Proposals are due April 20, 2023, so apply today! Founded in 1998, the Marjot Foundation is a nonprofit organization that has allowed over 70 high school students from the New England area to pursue environmentally-minded scientific projects by awarding grants of $5000 to successful applicants. The Marjot Foundation hopes to allow students who might not otherwise have access to opportunities to pursue their scientific interests in high school gain valuable experiences and to discover what being a scientist is like. Past Marjot scholars have gone on to many prestigious colleges, such as Brown University, MIT, Haverford College, Amherst College, and the University of Vermont. The grants the Marjot Foundation awards are intended to fund a year-long project that has the support of a mentor and is to be presented at a state science fair at some point during the course of the project. Mentors may be may be at a high school, a college or university, at independent laboratory or a state/federal agency. Students are also required to submit a mid year report to the trustees of the Marjot Foundation summarizing their accomplishments to date. Funds consists of $5000/project, with $1000 going towards the student, $1000 for the mentor, $500 for the School Department, and $2500 for research supplies and other necessities.
