We’re proud to announce that The Mather in Tysons, VA, has received the highest honors for Interior Merchandising of a Community Amenity/Clubhouse and Best Service Enriched Senior Living Community. These accolades celebrate our community's intentional design, which brings together luxury brands, an international flair, biophilic design, and sustainability.   The Aurora Awards are presented annually to outstanding builders, planners, architects, and developers. We extend our gratitude to our partners who helped bring The Mather to life, which includes SCB, studio 121 and The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company.

Our new beekeeping program at The Mather (brought to us by Alvéole) launched earlier this summer and we’re still buzzing with excitement! Residents celebrated #NationalHoneyBeeDay this week with a hands-on artisanal honey extraction workshop! Sustainability is important to us, and our talented chefs will use this hyper local honey in our food and beverages while the bees pollinate up to a few miles around the Tysons, VA area.

Residents at The Mather have been enjoying beautiful summer temperatures and great views, along with live music, on our rooftop terrace. Located just a few blocks from Lake Michigan, our Life Plan Community in Evanston, Illinois, offers the perfect backdrop for a summer concert series. 

We're excited to present the summer release of our "Be Well, Read Well" seasonal book showcase, spotlighting book recommendations from our Mather Institute researchers. Reading not only enriches the mind, but can enhance empathy and emotional intelligence, which may boost brain health. In fact, researchers have found that readers of books, as opposed to periodicals, tend to live nearly two years longer. Earlier this summer, Mather Institute partnered with three of our senior living communities to launch the Community Action Program. This month-long initiative featured resident-chosen volunteering activities and educational programs focused on youth outreach, including making children's books, offering resources to kids in foster care, and bundling diapers. Volunteering is a great way for older adults to engage with their community, boosting physical health and mental well-being. Our researchers are now evaluating the program's impact on residents' community engagement, belonging, and sense of purpose.

Beginning in September 2024, we will offer those 55 and better regular opportunities to connect with neighbors and participate in programs like yoga, line dancing, jewelry making, and more!
