Congratulations to Spiro Anxhara on obtaining his Qualified Parking Structures Inspector (QPSI) Certification!  Spiro’s expertise in structural engineering, his comprehensive understanding of NYC Building Code and Rule requirements, and experience working on a variety of #parking structures has culminated in the prestigious achievement of receiving his QPSI certification through the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB). Both New York State and New York City have rigorous inspection standards. The state requires inspections every three years by licensed professional engineers, while the #NYC, under Local Law 126 of 2021, mandates inspections by Qualified Parking Structure Inspectors (QPSIs). QPSIs are experts in assessing structural features and deterioration factors of parking structures, capable of identifying issues, conducting root cause analyses, and providing remediation support. Local Law 126 of 2021, added to Title 28 of the Administrative Code, mandates initial observations of parking structures by a Qualified Parking Structure Inspector (#QPSI) or under direct supervision. A report must be filed with the NYC DOB by August 1, 2024. Additionally, the law requires annual observation checklists to be completed by or under direct supervision of a QPSI. Spiro has demonstrated proficiency in evaluating existing structures, conducting structural analyses, performing inspections of structural framing, assessing building stability, conducting special inspections, and preparing reports. He has contributed to projects spanning from parking garages to multi-story residential and mixed-use structures. After conducting QPSI parking structure inspections under the direct supervision of a qualified parking structure inspector, Spiro has earned the designation of QPSI himself. “For Professional Engineers, public safety is paramount. I got to know the NYC buildings' structure during my 18 years of experience working in old and new buildings.  NYC buildings are unlike another place.  Thus, I want to share my knowledge and to contribute to improve the safety and the serviceability of the building structures in NYC.” - Spiro Join us in congratulating Spiro on this achievement! #infrastructure

Where in the world is McLaren’s survey team? Most recently, you can find them at Highbourne Cay Exumas, #Bahamas, surveying the island and #marina! Using our latest piece of survey equipment, the DJI Matrice 300 RTK drone, in conjunction with traditional ground survey equipment, Taylor Zimmerman, P.E.Jolan Biokua, and Alex Van Houten performed hydrographic and topographic surveys on site at Highbourne Cay in support of future expansions and upgrades to the island. Surveying approximately 30 acres – including shark-infested waters – the team collected #LiDAR and photogrammetry data and performed a singlebeam #hydrographic survey, gathering detailed information on coastal structures, marina, and entrance channel. This state-of-the-art #drone, when combined with traditional survey equipment, provided high-precision aerial LiDAR and photogrammetry capabilities, enabling us to create detailed 3D point cloud data and 2D georeferenced maps, or orthomosaics, that offer scrupulous detail for future planning. Now equipped with the durable DJI drone, our crews can tackle projects of any scale. Its versatile payload options, including LiDAR and advanced camera sensors, ensure comprehensive data collection for the most intricate site details. Stay tuned as we continue to explore, survey, and support the development of beautiful locations like Highbourne Cay!

The final phase of the #Pier 42 revitalization project has reached completion, marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week! Located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, this transformative project has turned an 8-acre industrial site into a vibrant recreational pier and adjacent upland #park along the East River. McLaren Engineering Group provided comprehensive engineering services, including marine, structural, civil, and geotechnical engineering, to bring this vision to life. Our contributions spanned structural upgrades to the seawall beneath the pier, the pier deck, overall redevelopment of the pier, creation of an upland park, and adaptive reuse of industrial structures. The new park features playgrounds, picnic areas, sports courts, a synthetic turf athletic field, a pavilion with seating, and connects to the Manhattan Greenway and East River #Waterfront Esplanade, linking the neighborhood to a broader network of green spaces. Working alongside MNLA (Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects), NYCEDC, NYC Parks, and NYCDDC, this project provides much-needed continuous recreational waterfront access to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, offering residents and visitors enhanced green space and amenities. #AdaptiveReuse #NYC

⚾ Located on East 151st Street in the Bronx, Franz Sigel Park Ballfields underwent a $9.5 million reconstruction. The project included reconstructing two ballfields for both #baseball and softball, and installing sports lighting, bleachers, drinking fountains, and in-ground irrigation. The design aimed to preserve the Grand Concourse historic district, adhering to rigorous NYC LPC review. The fields now feature natural turf baseball fields, and the fencing and amenities of the site were reconstructed, enhancing Franz Sigel Ballfield's functionality and aesthetic appeal. As a subconsultant to Nancy Owens Studio, the McLaren team provided civil, structural, and geotechnical services, enhancing recreational spaces in our vibrant Bronx community. McLaren developed and implemented a Geotechnical Investigation to evaluate the underlying ground conditions, supplying crucial information for the reconstruction and modification of the baseball fields and lighting structures at Franz Sigel Park. As there is both an existing subway tunnel and sewer main running beneath the park, McLaren had extensive coordination with the NYC Transit Authority and #NYC Department of Environmental Protection throughout the project. Both agencies reviewed both the geotechnical investigation plan as well as the final design to ensure that there would be no impact to any of the existing infrastructure. Additionally, McLaren aided in the drainage and water supply design for the ballfields and developed a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) to reduce pollutants from #stormwater runoff. The reconstruction of the baseball fields aimed to address infield flooding caused by stormwater, which disrupts baseball activities for days after rain events.  McLaren also provided structural services for the renovation of the southern portion of the existing park. This included incorporating renovated baseball fields, evaluating the existing perimeter retaining walls, designing retaining wall structures, and designing foundations for chain-link fence posts and sports lighting.  - - Image 1 courtesy of Nancy Owens Studio #greeninfrastructure #parks

McLaren Engineering Group’s #Entertainment team collaborated with Sapsis Rigging Inc. on a visually stunning performance for Childish Gambino's exclusive show at Little Island NYC. Known for his genre-blending nature, thought-provoking lyrics, and innovative production, "CHILDISH GAMBINO LIVE FROM LITTLE ISLAND," premiered his highly anticipated album, Bando Stone & The New World. A central element of the show was a massive LED curtain that provided a captivating backdrop for the performance. Our Entertainment team engineered the support structure for this crucial visual component, including truss towers tied to another with a cable stay and guy cables utilizing pre-existing base anchorages that McLaren has utilized for past productions. Sapsis Rigging supplied the equipment and performed the rigging for the #LED curtain, including rope rigging that allowed the LED curtain to be deployed and lowered easily. With the backdrop of the Hudson River, surrounded by the serene greenery of Little Island Park, the entire event setup delivered an unforgettable visual experience. #ChildishGambino #LiveEntertainment - - Images courtesy of Sapsis Rigging Inc.
