What would it look like if we all had a RIGHT to food? It might look something like HarvestSHARE, where there's fresh food available to everyone (regardless of how much money you can spend), where we embrace all kinds of cultures and cuisines, and where local farmers, chefs, and neighbors all come together to celebrate our community! Join us on Saturday, September 21 from 11am to 5pm on 30th Avenue between Madam CJ Walker Park and Frederick Douglass Park to experience our "Right to Food" block together with Denver Food Rescue, SAME Cafe, and Fresh Food Connect.

Meet Luca, one of our Community Connectors! Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Luca spent time in Mexico before moving to Colorado. They have been a concurrent enrollment student since 12 years old and just transferred to a four-year university to complete a degree in Communal Social Justice and Advocacy. They have been involved in social and environmental advocacy work since they were young and even co-founded their own non-profit organization, Denver Street Stories. At Metro Caring, you'll find Luca in the Welcome Center, helping connect you to the best resources available in the area that meet your specific needs.

We know no one better than Mo Betta Green's Beverly Grant to be the "Matriarch of Five Points." As reporter Yvens Alex Saintil writes, Beverly Grant, a Denver native and social justice advocate, created Mo Betta Green in 2010, an urban farming and community-driven organization based in Denver. "Mo Better Green is a shining example of how urban farming and community activism can come together to create sustainable change and make convincing impacts on people’s lives." We don't have much more to say other than we're grateful to partner with such a deeply rooted organization to end hunger in our community. Read more about Bev's contributions and about how maybe it's time to give her the Key to the City.

As we invest in a stronger local food system that can help to end hunger, we had the opportunity to be part of the Farm to Food Assistance Learning Lab. This accelerator program helped us and 9 other organizations implement equity-centered, community-driven Farm to Food Assistance programs. It helped us ensure we pay farmers fair market value for their products and share that food with our community. Read more and see what our Food Access Manager Cory Scrivner had to say about the partnership.

Do you know who grows your food? This summer, Mo'Betta Green and Metro Caring invited the community to spend time at Blue Bear Farm and Seeds of Power Unity Farm to meet urban farmers and share a meal. We enjoyed live music, ate delicious food featuring locally-grown produce, and discussed the importance of urban farmers in our local food system. Strong local food systems are necessary to ending hunger at its root so that everyone can have what they need to live healthy lives.

Denver East High School junior Sophia Swanson turned her passion for swimming into an impactful way to give back. To raise funds for our mission, she challenged herself to swim three miles—98 laps—in a little over an hour. With support from her community, she achieved both her fundraising and swimming goals. Her swim-a-thon is a great example of how our community finds creative ways to get involved in ending hunger.
