Ahead of Juneteenth, our Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging Committee organized a staff visit to the Historic Hampton House. Once a gathering spot for influential figures of the civil rights era, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Muhammad Ali, Jackie Robinson and many others, it is now the only Green Book museum in the world dedicated to sharing the experience of the Jim Crow era. Today, in partnership with J.P. Morgan and the Black Sports Professionals (BSP) South Florida, we hosted a special pre-game Juneteenth celebration at the ballpark. Attendees participated in a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring esteemed black sports professionals, before networking and fostering connections that continued to enrich the celebration of Juneteenth.

With help from the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, we had the honor of hosting the Gilbert family at loanDepot park on Sunday as they completed a very special goal. Col. Erick Gilbert set out for his family to visit all 30 MLB ballparks before his eldest son Dane turned 18 this July. After making it to 28 of the 30 stadiums, Col. Gilbert passed away while serving on active duty in the U.S. Air Force. As the family completed Col. Gibert’s goal of visiting all 30 ballparks with a visit to loanDepot park on Sunday, they met with Marlins players and coaching staff prior to the game. They were surprised with a signed jersey. Dane and his brother Chase were also surprised with the chance to throw out dual first pitches.
