  • Got a bike? Use your Pedals for Good on Sunday, September 1st to #MakeItBetter for kids with bone cancer. This ride is organized by Sherrick Murdoff, Board Member of MIB Agents and, most importantly, Dad to Charlotte. Charlotte was one of the most incredible humans to walk this earth. While in treatment, she made unique, beautiful, and very cool sweatshirts to help other kids she was treated with. Proceeds from the sale went to fund research for #Osteosarcoma, the cancer that would take her life in 2021 at age 18. She also served on our Junior Board. Her courage, fortitude, and grace were astonishing - even showing up for a Jr. Board meeting two days after a 20-hour lung surgery. Char continues to inspire us and anyone who knows her story. Her twin brother, sister, and parents continue her astonishing legacy with events like this, which fund research #BecauseOfCharlotte. If you cannot ride, then consider writing a check or donating on the link. It matters. So much.

I'm excited to share that Cycle for Charlotte is back again this year! The ride is Sunday, September 1st and you can register here: https://lnkd.in/gRW5mnMH My goal is to raise $20,000 after smashing last year's goal (Thank you!). There is no cost or minimum to ride, I just ask if you can please donate and share this link with your friends and family to support our goal: https://lnkd.in/gkB3MSG3 Donations from this ride will support Charlotte's Family Fund at MIB Agents Osteosarcoma Alliance, a leading osteosarcoma nonprofit dedicated to Making It Better for families, doctors, and researchers. Through Charlotte's Family Fund, we have raised over $200,000 for researchers at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals and Case Western Reserve University. Charlotte served on the Junior Board of MIB Agents before she passed away and her twin brother, Matthew, served in her place. I have the honor of serving on the Board of Directors for MIB Agents, as well. This is a great way to kick off Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September, so I really appreciate your support! #pediatriccancer #osteosarcoma #childhoodcancerawareness #fcancer #becauseofcharlotte

  • Yesterday, we were joined by Diana Azzam, PhD, on OsteoBites to discuss, "Clinical Utility of Functional Precision Medicine to Guide Treatments for Osteosarcoma Patients". Watch the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/gKzu43f2 Diana Azzam, PhD, is an Assistant Professor and Research Director of the Center for Advancing Personalized Cancer Treatments at Florida International University. She has a Masters in Biochemistry from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon and a PhD in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from the University of Miami, Florida. Her lab focuses on implementing functional precision medicine (FPM) approaches in adult and pediatric cancer patients that have run out of treatment options. Working with local hospitals including Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Florida, her lab delivers individualized treatment plans based on a patient’s cancer genomic profile and ex vivo drug response. She is currently engaged in two clinical studies to assess feasibility and clinical utility of FPM in relapsed/refractory patients with childhood cancer (ClinicalTrials.gov registration: NCT05857969) and adult cancer (ClinicalTrials.gov registration: NCT06024603). Dr. Azzam is working on setting up the first CLIA-certified lab in the State of Florida dedicated for functional cancer drug testing. Her goal is to launch large-scale prospective multi-center randomized clinical trials to better assess efficacy of FPM approaches in the treatment of refractory/relapsed cancers. In parallel, she is working on utilizing FPM as a tool to reduce health disparities in childhood cancer patients from minority populations. She is also integrating a novel machine learning approach to identify specific biomarkers among minority populations that can be targeted using FDA-approved drugs. Her lab also investigates cancer stem cells and how they may result from chronic environmental exposures to toxic metals such as arsenic. #MIBAgents #MakeItBetter #osteosarcoma #OsteoBites #podcast

  • Thursday, we were joined by Sabina Kaczanowska, PhD, on OsteoBites to discuss, "Immune determinants of CAR-T cell expansion in solid tumor patients receiving GD2 CAR-T cell therapy". Watch the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/gXKnw6Tt Dr. Sabina Kaczanowska received her Ph.D. in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in for her dissertation work on T cell immunotherapy in the UM Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center. She joined the Tumor Microenvironment and Metastasis Section of Pediatric Oncology Branch at the National Cancer Institute as a postdoctoral fellow in 2017 with Dr. Rosandra Kaplan. Dr. Kaczanowska’s research focus is to understand the role of the immune system in shaping the microenvironment of metastasis during cancer progression. Specifically, she is investigating how myeloid cells orchestrate the immunosuppressive program in cancer and how we can apply this knowledge of myeloid biology to design new immunotherapeutic strategies for the treatment of solid tumors. Dr. Kaczanowska was appointed as a Staff Scientist in the Pediatric Oncology Branch in 2022 to continue her work evaluating the responses of solid tumor patients to immunotherapy and translating new immuno-oncology approaches into the clinic. #MIBAgents #MakeItBetter #osteosarcoma #OsteoBites #podcast
