CRi, formerly Community Residences, originated in the mid-70's by Arlington Virginia residents, churches & government leaders wanting to change the institutional treatment of individuals with mental illness. They believed individuals would best be supported in their home communities, in small residential settings, close to family and opportunities for community interaction. In the last forty-plus years, CRi services have evolved, and today CRi is a recognized leader delivering services to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and/or mental illness (individuals) diagnoses throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a community partner CRi collaborates with public and private partners to provide services individuals need so that they may live and thrive in their community. As a community leader, CRi is a passionate, innovative, ethical, well-managed and growing non-profit meeting the needs of individuals by providing programs and services that support personal growth, removing barriers and helping individuals with dignity and respect. In 2022, CRi provided supports and services to over 800 individuals, through the provision of medical, therapeutic, educational, vocational, residential and integrative recreational services to the formation of vital relational communities through which our consumers experience greater independence, dignity, fulfillment and happiness. CRi provides services throughout Northern Virginia, including the cities of Arlington, Alexandria, and Falls Church, Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William and Richmond counties. In Maryland, mental health services are offered throughout Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Montgomery counties. To learn more about CRi, visit our website at www.MyCRi.org

Just one month to go until World Mental Health Day! 🌍💜 World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on 10 October. This year, the theme is “prioritising mental health in the workplace”. Work can have a huge impact on our mental health. It can help give us a sense of purpose, boost our self-worth, and provide opportunities to connect with others. But it can also be a source of stress and anxiety and contribute to developing or worsening mental health problems. A mentally healthy workplace can make a huge difference. For World Mental Health Day, we’ll be sharing how to support good mental health at work. Visit our website to find new resources: https://bit.ly/3r8E9x8

Intense emotions are valid responses to traumatic events like September 11, even decades later. Research shows that individuals who were directly affected by 9/11 were more likely to report PTSD symptoms six months later. However, a substantial number of individuals who were not directly affected also met the criteria for probable PTSD. Today, we solemnly remember the victims of the 9/11 attacks, as well as the first responders who risked their lives to save others. Our hearts go out to their loved ones and to everyone who’s feeling the weight of this trauma today. You are not alone, and we will #NeverForget. If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, please call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org. You can also reach the Crisis Text Line by texting HOME to 741741. • 🪄 Wow—what a night! The magic came alive last Friday at The Barns at Wolf Trap, and it’s all because of YOU. Thank you for making our Autumn Evening of Enchantment event a sparkling success! From the moment you stepped inside, the evening buzzed with excitement. The cocktails and mocktails weren’t just drinks—they were potions of delight! That jazz band? They were smooth as butter, setting the perfect tone for an incredible evening. The 360-photobooth captured joy from every angle, making memories to last long after the night was over. The real magic, though? The real magic of the evening resonated through the heartfelt stories shared by people impacted by CRi over the past 50 years. Your participation in the evening wasn't just fun—it was transformative and powerful in support of our mission. We'd like to send a special abracadabra to all of our supporters, especially to the Shrivastava Family, our Presenting Sponsor, whose generosity sprinkled pixie dust over the entire evening. To all our attendees, sponsors, volunteers, and of course, you—thank you for making this event unforgettable! We have such amazing partners on our team. We look forward to coming together again soon in support of our mission. Thank you, again, for all that you do for us. We had an amazing time!!

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. Today we're spreading the message that it's ok to talk about suicide. In fact, talking about suicide and asking directly can save a life. Knowing how to talk about suicide is something we can all learn. We’ve prepared advice for safe and supportive conversations: 🟣If someone does tell you that they are having suicidal thoughts, always take them seriously. 🟣Don’t feel like you need to offer solutions. Just listening and understanding will be a big help. 🟣Listen in an unhurried way without distractions. If possible, arrange to speak to them again at a specific point. 🟣Encourage them to seek professional support, or call the Samaritans on 116 123. If you are concerned someone is in immediate danger, call 999. Read more advice on talking about suicide here: https://bit.ly/4ge4qif
