The National Foundation for Cancer Research would like to officially say congratulations to Dr. Dennis Slamon on becoming the newest Szent-Györgyi Prize winner! Dr. Slamon’s groundbreaking research discoveries have helped shape precision medicine for breast cancer patients. In 1987, Dr. Slamon discovered the correlation between the amplification of the HER2 gene and its association with 25–30% of human breast cancer. This discovery defined a new subtype of breast cancer. Dr. Slamon’s tireless work has helped develop a deeper understanding of the causes of breast cancer, ultimately leading to the saving of lives.
