After a young fawn was hit by a car, the team at NVA’s Valley Cottage Animal Hospital worked together to save his life. 🦌    Through X-rays, Dr. James Maidhof and team discovered that he had a broken back leg and multiple lacerations. They stabilized the leg with a split and bandage and let him rest comfortably. He was then transferred to a wildlife rehabilitator so he could continue to heal. “Our team jumped right in to help this little one in need,” said Hospital Manager Shannon Goldberg. “We’re wishing this sweet boy a swift recovery!”     Want to make a difference for animals in need? Dr. Hannah Krichbaum’s obsession with cats (especially her own tabby) and the purrfect externship led to her dream career at NVA’s The Cat Doctor. 🐈 “As an extern at The Cat Doctor, I got an in-depth look at feline medicine and learned what I wanted out of my career,” said Dr. Krichbaum about Idaho’s feline-only veterinary practice. “The doctors helped me grow my confidence and took time to discuss each case. On the last day of my externship, I cried because I had formed a really strong connection with the doctors and team.” Fortunately, after graduation, Dr. Krichbaum was hired full-time as an Associate Veterinarian. "I look forward to helping my clients and being part of this tight-knit team. And, of course, caring for lots of incredibly cute cats!” Each year, 550+ NVA practices open their doors to veterinary externs, offering a unique learning environment and access to real-life patients. Behind every healthy pet is a vet tech covered in fur, slobber and fluids. 🐾    After her 80-pound patient ingested a toxic substance, Veterinary Technician Allison patiently – and successfully – administered activated charcoal. It’s World Lizard Day! 🦎💚 And we’re celebrating all our scaly patients, including Blizzard, a 9-year-old Tegu. After arriving at NVA’s Adobe Animal Hospital with a swollen abdomen, Dr. Curt Nakamura and team discovered a tumor and successfully removed it in a lengthy surgery.
