Members of the NJDOL and USDOL teams attended the 1st Annual Eastern Atlantic States Carpenters Technical Centers (EASCTC) NJ Commencement & Apprentice Graduation Luncheon on Wednesday, August 28. 81 individuals graduated the program, with occupations including millwright, pile driver, floor layer, carpenter, and more. EASCTC is a recipient of Youth Transition to Work (YTTW), Women and Minorities in Construction Trades (NJBUILD), and Growing Apprenticeships in Nontraditional Sectors (GAINS) state grant funds. The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOL) in August added the names of 19 businesses to its Workplace Accountability in Labor List (The WALL), bringing to 197 the number of employers that have failed to address their outstanding liabilities for violations of wage, benefit or tax laws. The 19 businesses owe a total of $1,391,785.80, including unpaid contributions, penalties, and interest to the Unemployment Compensation Fund and State Disability Benefits Fund. Labor Commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo and members of the NJDOL team attended the NJDEP Youth Inclusion Initiative Final Ceremony on Friday, August 16. The program, which began in 2021, partners with community-based organizations to help young people from overburdened communities gain the technical skills necessary to pursue a career in environmental protection in New Jersey. NJDOL’s collaboration has helped create a spectrum of apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship career pathways that span vital industry sectors, including Building and Construction Trades, Advanced Manufacturing, Healthcare, Automotive, and Information Technology.
