Within hours of Kamala Harris entering the race for president, thousands of Black women threw their support behind her, with many vowing to go door to door to get her elected and to fundraise on her behalf. A new Cut survey of 1,200 Black women reflected that strong support for the vice-president, with 76 percent agreeing that Harris is the right person to replace President Joe Biden and 77 percent saying they believe Harris is the candidate most likely to beat Trump. But they’re split on the question of whether Americans actually are ready to send a Black woman to the White House. Nearly two-thirds say concerns about the country not being ready to elect a Black woman are true or fair, while 37 percent believe those concerns are exaggerated. Younger Black women ages 18 to 34 are more likely to agree with concerns that Americans are not ready to elect a Black woman. Read more about the survey here: https://lnkd.in/g8VxC_TV

The latest issue of New York Magazine features an exhaustive exploration of the ethics of pet ownership, “Are We All Bad Pet Parents?” For the cover photo series by Charlie Engman, four actors modeled for the two-day shoot. Prosthetics makeup artist Emily Schubert and her team spent several hours applying foam latex molds to each “pet” before tweezing strands of hair onto the masks to transform them. New York photography director Jody Quon says, “Our idea was to anthropomorphize the animals to help readers imagine what their lives as pets might feel like.” https://lnkd.in/eEjEEk6b

The Cut's Editor-in-Chief, Lindsay Peoples, and Vox Media's Chief Revenue Officer, Geoff Schiller, spoke to Business of Fashion about the editorial brand's first ever print issue, coming this September. Editor-in-chief Lindsay Peoples said the decision to expand The Cut’s print offering is “the natural next step,” crediting the publication’s engaged audience — which often congregates in Instagram comment sections — for its confidence in the move. A standalone magazine, printed on heavy paper stock and in a larger trim size, will also serve as an appealing proposition for luxury advertisers. Already, ad sales for the upcoming issue have quadrupled compared to last year’s fall fashion issue. Land of the Giants, the Vox Media Podcast Network’s award-winning narrative franchise, today announced the launch of its tenth season, The Disney Dilemma. Produced in collaboration with Vulture, the six-episode series will explore Disney’s trajectory from a small animation studio to one of the largest companies in the world and dig into the leadership struggles and competition it currently faces as it looks toward the future. Co-hosted by Vulture’s entertainment-industry columnist Joe Adalian, staff writer Rebecca Alter, film critic Bilge Ebiri, and senior reporter Chris Lee, the season will feature interviews with former Disney executives and employees, animators, directors, producers, journalists, and more. Episodes will cover how Disney’s cable expansion turbocharged the business, theme parks and the brand of nostalgia, the evolution of animation, betting on live-action franchises such as Marvel and Star Wars, succession challenges, and the streaming wars.
