Lowell Joerg, aka Postcard Man, picked the Morris County Courthouse in Morristown for his latest “Re-distribution of Happiness” by sending this postcard of the historic courthouse circa 1925. We, like Mr. Joerg, wonder how this got to California. While there have been a good amount of interior changes, the exterior hasn’t changed much.

“Justice Coleman’s groundbreaking career broke the artificial barriers or ceilings of opportunity for judges of color. Most importantly, he navigated these uncharted waters in a way that demonstrated devotion, compassion, and commitment to the law together with its essential foundations to fairness and equality for all. And he did so with great intellect and talent. He was both a role model and friend, and I will miss him.”   Judge Glenn A. Grant, acting administrative director of the courts.

The Ocean Vicinage’s Employee Engagement Committee held its annual Spirit Week last week. Employees participated in outdoor games and a vicinage-wide game show tournament, with the Civil Division crowned as back-to-back champions! Court staff took part in ice cream socials and a coffee bar, where they could fill up their new coffee tumblers – a gift of appreciation for their contribution to the greater mission of the Judiciary. Tumblers were adorned with this year’s theme: “Individually we are one drop; together we are Ocean!”

As part of the Judiciary’s JOBS Program, the Morris/Sussex Vicinage’s probation office hosted a joint event on Thursday with Morris County’s Navigating Hope van and Community Connections. Twenty people took advantage of the social services offered, which included food assistance, housing, and general assistance. The goal of the JOBS Program is to connect probation clients to jobs and job training. An important component of the program is ensuring clients are stable by providing services that put them in a position to attain and maintain employment. Keep a look out for the vicinage’s next JOBS event in October!
