As we continue to celebrate Direct Support Professional week, we're excited to recognize two more DSPs who exemplify the incredible support provided by our Residential team. Read what colleagues had to say about Ernestine Enyong, Marc Predka, and Sally Whitney. #DSPRW2024 Image Descriptions "Ernestine supports an individual with a very complicated medication taper. She has gone above and beyond to make sure this resident is taken care of physically and emotionally.” “Marc is a long-term, positive and trusted member of the Lafayette team. His recent help in regards to maintaining consistency with 2 recent staffing vacancies and his incredible dedication and effort to assist with the smooth and best transition into the home of a new individual is exemplary. Marc has a fantastic easy-going manner that, combined with his insight into others and his extra effort, enabled a new Individual to become welcome in his home and supported more than he would have been at home. This has been noted by both the individual and his family.” “Sally has been a shining star at Magnolia house as a regular per diem staff. She is flexible in her abilities to support the team and ensures that all aspects of the job are done well. Sally has established a strong bond with the ladies at Magnolia house, inviting them to her family gatherings and providing them with stability. Sally's uses all the tools available to her to provide constant structure and support to her coworkers as well as the individuals.”

Nashwa Farghaly, Sugeli Ramirez, and Jennifer Call highlight the incredible range of skills that direct support professionals bring to their work at Northeast Arc, always willing to go above and beyond to support residents. Learn more about each of them from their colleagues! #DSPRW24 Image Descriptions “Nashwa brings her unique talents to the CACR team. As a former art teacher in Dubai, she has used her skills to make our home a beautiful place to live. Nashwa regularly designs beautiful chalk drawings in the great room which the individuals love. She has painted murals in several individuals' bedrooms. When she isn't beautifying the world, she is making sure our home is clean, and everyone has a full belly of delicious food. Nashwa continues to shine in her own way, and we are so thankful for all she does.” “Sugeli has been willing to pick up extra hours and shifts on short notice many times over the last year which has helped to maintain a familiar presence for the folks living at Rogers Rd. She has an amazing rapport and always has a cheerful demeanor with the individuals. Whenever I catch a candid moment I feel like Sugeli thinks of the guys as her own family. Sugeli has been the in-house pep squad and created seasonal decorations and a birthday wall incorporating pictures of the guys and their artwork. It's difficult to express how positive her impact here has been.” “Jennifer Call has worked at Peabody house for almost 20 years and her dedication is unmatched. There are so many wonderful things Jen has done over the years such as planning and facilitating fun outings, remembering staff birthdays and being flexible to fit the needs of the program. Jen brings a sense of light-hearted fun to the house every day and her coworkers enjoy being around her. Jen takes her job seriously, but makes every shift she is there feel like a special day for the ladies. Thank you Jen for your extraordinary work every day!”

We're excited to highlight three more Northeast Arc direct support professionals who exemplify the incredible support provided by our Residential team. Read what colleagues had to say about Emmanuel Ozika, Marisol Vega, and Giulia Finazzo. #DSPRW2024 Image Descriptions: “Emmanuel’s care and concern for the three residents is at the front of everything he does. He is a consummate professional who takes his job responsibilities seriously, yet always manages to have a smile and sense of humor while doing so. We have one resident who is immediately calmed just by Emmanuel's presence. The men of Collins St. are very lucky to have him.” “Marisol has recently been promoted to an assistant director after starting as per diem staff. She is well loved by her coworkers and individuals and is often the "go-to" person in the house. Marisol has aspirations of moving into more of a leadership role in the future and is always rising to the challenges presented to her. Thank you Marisol for all you do to support the ladies of Magnolia house!” “To know Giulia is to know someone with a heart of gold. Her love for the individual shines through in everything she does. She will come and visit when not working just to spend time with them. She counsels, holds hands, and provides unconditional support, not just to the individuals but also her co-workers. Recently Giulia has gone above and beyond to be there for the gentle passing of 2 individuals, lending her caring and kind nature right to the end. Our team is better for having Giulia as a part of it.”

When Jerry McCarthy arrived as CEO at Northeast Arc in 1979, the organization was supporting just a couple of hundred individuals in 19 communities. By the time he retired 36 years later, the agency was supporting more than 10,000 people in 200 communities. In the latest episode of our All Things Disability podcast, McCarthy reflects on that growth — highlighting what it took and the challenges along the way.

    • "This past year Judith enrolled as a full time LPN student, while working full-time. To say this year has been met with many challenges, would be an understatement. Judith has been an amazing support to both her co-workers and the Individuals we support during this stressful time. Judith shows up for every shift ready with a positive attitude, and goes above and beyond every shift.”
    • “Zeke is the kind of staff member who truly puts his heart and soul into the job. He has quickly became a well-loved member of the team. His care and continuous dedication to the individuals of CACR are the perfect example of what a DSP is. We are so lucky to have Zeke as part of our CACR family.”
