Nuestra tierra alongside The Conservation Alliance, REI, Public Lands and Rivian had the opportunity to go to D.C. this week and speak to key decision makers about land and water conservation. One of the top priorities is to advocate for National Monument designations and expansions. National Monuments are a proven tool for permanently protecting wild places and outdoor spaces. Our voices are stronger together and we want to ensure everyone has access to these public lands. ⛰️

Our team, along with representatives from REI, Public Lands, Flickr, Rivian, and Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project, are in D.C. this week meeting with key decision makers about land and water conservation. One of our top priorities is advocating for National Monument designations and expansions. National Monuments are a proven tool for permanently protecting wild places and outdoor spaces and if our efforts are successful we can protect over 3 million acres of public lands! 📷: Ben MacAskill

Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project is hiring. Compensation: $70,000 to $80,000 Annually

The proposed Chuckwalla National Monument in Southern California would protect over 650,000  acres of vital public lands in the California Desert. If designated, the national monument would stretch from the Southern border of Joshua Tree National Park, bordering the Chuckwalla Valley, and connect to the Colorado River. As we saw on the #M4MRoadTrip, the area offers visitors beautiful views of colorful rock formations and popular hikes into narrow canyons. Permanent protections for Chuckwalla would preserve recreation access to popular places like the Mecca Hills and Orocopia Mountains, safeguard World War II historical sites, and the Bradshaw Trail, and protect vital habitats for chuckwalla (the monument’s namesake), desert bighorn sheep, and desert tortoise. We are joining CalWild, the Conservation Lands Foundation, and other on-the-ground groups in advocating for the protection of the Chuckwalla landscape by encouraging the Biden Administration to use the Antiquities Act to designate the Chuckwalla National Monument.  Learn more about the campaign and each of the monuments at mobilizingformonuments.com.  🎥: Flickr  🛻: Rivian 🗣: Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project 

I loved visiting Avi Kwa Ame National Monument and learning about Spirit Mountain and the importance of the landscape for the local economies of places like Searchlight, NV and Laughlin, NV. In August 2023, President Biden protected nearly 1 million acres of federal public lands in Arizona by designating The Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni – Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument. Visiting this monument while on the #M4MRoadTrip served as a stunning reminder for why we advocate for conservation. Twelve tribes and several local grassroots conservation groups (including grantees of The Conservation Alliance) advocated for the designation of this monument to protect their sacred homelands from future harmful development and conserve this iconic landscape. At this stop, we are grateful we got to hear from local voices like Mylo Fowler and Ed Kabotie as well as friends from Kahtoola, Grand Canyon Trust, and other community members at Mother Road Brewing Company about the true impact of this victory. We are grateful to POTUS for making this designation and look forward to seeing similar protections come for additional pivotal landscapes in 2024.
