Though many foster parents have many types of careers, we’d like to encourage medical professionals to consider fostering today. With a number of youth experiencing foster care while also having significant medical needs, many medical professionals already have the training and skills needed to meet their needs. Youth with significant medical needs often spend months in hospitals or rehab facilities because of the lack of foster homes. If you are not a medical professional, but are willing to receive specialized training, please reach out as well. Request an info call: nyap.org/fostercare

August is National Civility Month. This is a reminder to all to treat others with kindness and empathy. We all need a little more kindness and light shined on us. Do you know school employees can be considered as kinship homes for youth in foster care? Because you have a pre-existing relationship, you may be considered for a youth at your school who is needing a foster home. Additionally, in many states, you can become foster licensed to receive funds to support the youth in your care. School employees have the skills and qualities needed to be successful foster parents. Many foster parent trainings may also qualify for continuing education requirements. NYAP conducts convenient foster parent trainings and will meet your unique scheduling needs. We are currently licensing foster homes in Ohio, Indiana, Florida, Georgia, West Virginia, South Carolina, Louisiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Texas, Colorado, and Nevada.
