It’s an honor to be featured within AndHealth's exhibition of portraits entitled Community of Healing: Portraits from the Whole-Person Specialty Care Movement by Columbus photographer Tariq Tarey. This gallery showcases patients and advocates, sharing inspirational stories of overcoming chronic illness through fully integrated specialty care. Whole-Person Specialty Care is rooted in the acknowledgement that health is a human right and provides all people access to the comprehensive medical and lifestyle support they need to be well. As Ohio's Community Health Centers know, when we radically improve access to care, address social drivers of health, and support patients’ personal agency in their pursuit of health, we can eliminate the disparate health outcomes we’ve seen for far too long. On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, bringing the transformative news that over 250,000 enslaved Black individuals were free.
