OIC of America began as a vision of economic empowerment 60 years ago - our affiliates have trained more than 2 million students since the OIC model was built by Rev. Leon Sullivan. Next week we're officially launching the Sullivan Training Network - modeled after Rev. Sullivan's vision, raising the bar on what workforce training can do for our communities and economies. Come see what it's all about: https://lnkd.in/gsZf4Adk

We know our country's history of racism and mass incarceration has fueled decades of economic injustice - particuarly among Black men, and it continues today. Our newly launched Sullivan Training Network paves the path to address these injustices by investing in trainings for people who have been formerly incarcerated, so that they have the skills, support, and network to access living wage careers.

On this International Day of Charity, we reaffirm OIC's committment to building the pathways out of poverty - not out of a sense of charity - but rather, the sense of justice Nelson Mandela speaks of. As we continue carrying out Rev. Leon Sullivan's vision for economic justice, we invite you to join us in building the the movement towards true freedom for poor Americans! Have you read this strong case for skills-based hiring via Fast Company? "At the same time, there are an estimated 70 million working-age Americans with skills but no Bachelor’s degree, and a large portion are Black, Latino, veterans, or from rural communities. When we require four-year degrees, we are essentially erecting an artificial barrier between people and opportunity."

A big thank you again to OIC Philadelphia for hosting OIC affiliates from across the country! We are honored and grateful to continue writing the OIC story with all our affiliates and partners, especially as we enter a new chapter with the Sullivan Training Network 🌟
Last week, OIC Philadelphia had the honor of welcoming and hosting the 23 OIC affiliates from across the country to our flagship location-- the very site where Reverend Dr. Leon Sullivan opened the first OIC in 1964. Our day was filled with inspiration and collaboration. We shared out highlights from our 2023-24 Annual Report, provided tours of the facility, and showcased our work with a phenomenal lunch prepared by the participants in the Hospitality program. The day was made even more special by the presence of key figures from the Sullivan Entities: - Mable Ellis Welborn, Chair of the Leon H. Sullivan Charitable Trust - Daryl DeBrest, CEO & President of Sullivan Progress Plaza - Elisabeth Sullivan-Johnson, M.S., granddaughter of Reverend Dr. Leon Sullivan. As the day drew to a close, the energy in the room was palpable. We stood there-- 23 affiliates strong, alongside the Sullivan Entities- a living, breathing testament to the power of one man's vision and strength of our collective commitment. Together, we continue to write the OIC story, honoring our past and shaping our future. Just as Reverend Dr. Leon Sullivan envisioned 60 years ago, we remain a beacon of hope, opportunity, and empowerment for all. #oicphiladelphia #oicnetwork #theflagship #beacononbroadstreet #leonsullivanlegacy

As summer winds down and students are headed #BackToSchool, we're still glowing from our successful first-ever STEMFest in Philadelphia! Over 500 -- yes, five HUNDRED -- students came out to fly drones, explore VR aviation, dissect sheep hearts, build battery-operated cars, learn about chemical reactions, and more. As the demand for STEM workers grows in the future, OICA's STEMLinx program inspires and supports young people in gaining the interest, skills, and experiences they need to pursue careers in the STEM field. The youth pipeline of the Sullivan Training Network, we're building skilled workers of today, tomorrow, and the future! Learn more about STEMLinx: https://lnkd.in/gM8x77JN
