Orbia’s Polymer Solutions business Alphagary has partnered with a customer to create a solution to prevent mite infestation in beehives that is safe for bees and honey consumption. The customer extruded SUPERKLEEN PVC product compounds, which contain bio-based content and FDA-sanctioned ingredients, into strips that deliver mite prevention instead of relying on fogging or vaporized chemicals. Fiber optic cables in conduit pathways, used for internet and broadband, contain hundreds of fibers that carry signal across oceans, countries and throughout our communities. Paul Dickinson, Director of Business Development at Orbia’s Connectivity Solutions business Dura-Line, spoke with Broadband Communities about the benefits of using this same conduit and optical fiber for entirely different applications. This technology sends light pulses through the fiber to monitor temperature, strain and acoustic vibration, helping prevent damage and keep utilities running smoothly. Carbon credits can help farmers, smallholders and other businesses adopt more sustainable practices they otherwise wouldn’t be able to.
