🚨FRAUD ALERT🚨 **sharing from ICBA** Several banks have reported check fraud related to home equity lines of credit in recent days. Fraudsters are using info available in public records to create checks drawn on HELOCs. HELOC documents often contain all the information a fraudster needs to generate checks, including the customer's name, address, lender, signature, and account number. Mitigation tips from ICBA: https://lnkd.in/eDP6_qej #FraudAlert #CommunityBanks #PACB

What’s cooking? Check Cooking. Because Check Washing is more difficult, Check Cooking is now replacing it. The crime begins when a fraudster gains access to legitimate checks, which are often stolen from mailboxes. Fraudsters use stolen checks and/or images to change critical details such as the payee's name, payment amount, and other important information using graphic editing software. After the digital alterations are completed, fraudsters create counterfeit checks that closely resemble legitimate ones and use them to withdraw funds from unsuspecting individuals' accounts. How can you protect yourself? Use EStatements and digital payment options instead of mailing checks! https://lnkd.in/e6RNr2EK
