Meet Neha Ramachandran, Senior Stress Engineer at Proterra! Tell us about you background and where did you grow up?     I grew up in Mangalore, India! What do you enjoy most about your role at Proterra?    One of the things I enjoy most about my role at Proterra is the opportunity to work on different variations of battery structural analysis, from the initial concept stages all the way through to production. This process involves a lot of creativity and problem-solving, as each project comes with its own set of unique challenges.     What motivated you to join the clean transportation industry? My motivation to join the clean transportation industry stems from a belief that the future needs to be clean, and that everyone deserves to breathe fresh air. At Proterra, I’m proud to be part of a team that is actively working to make this vision a reality.    What is your favorite thing to do outside of work? Outside of work, I enjoy spending my time walking, running, and reading books.

Get to know Christopher Rizzuti, Project Engineer at Proterra! What do you enjoy most about your role at Proterra? One of the things I enjoy most about my role at Proterra is the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse and talented group of engineers. Each team, whether in design, testing, or cell engineering, brings a unique set of skills and perspective to the table. This variety not only enriches the problem-solving process but also allows me to continuously learn from colleagues with different backgrounds and expertise. Being part of a team that is collectively working towards advancing sustainable transportation solutions is both inspiring and fulfilling. What motivated you to join the clean transportation industry? My passion for machines, particularly cars and trucks, has been a driving force in my life since childhood. I have always been fascinated by how they work, their power, and the impact they have on our daily lives. The clean transportation industry stood out to me as a field where I could merge my love for machines with a purpose-driven career. The industry is not only innovative but also constantly evolving, offering endless opportunities to learn and contribute to meaningful change. What do you like to do in your free time? Restore and maintain classic Toyota 4X4s, fish, cook, camp, build / tinker, exercise, spend time with family, and be immersed in nature.

Our battery is engineered to endure various real-world conditions, including shock loads, vibrations, and extreme weather.  ⚡ Think of our battery pack as a house: the enclosure serves as the foundation, walls, and roof, while the modules function as robust support beams. Together, this ensures exceptional strength and durability, working seamlessly to reinforce the battery pack. We verify the integrity of our battery packs by running vibration tests, which represents up to a million miles of simulated road stresses, and also impact tests and crush tests. 

Our team at our Battery Technology & Innovation Center in Burlingame, CA was excited to have a ride-and-drive with the Nikola Corporation hydrogen fuel cell electric truck! The Nikola hydrogen fuel cell electric truck features two Proterra battery packs and the Nikola battery-electric truck features nine!
