  • Great work, Katie Nash, RN, Mom-Baby, on being named a DAISY award winner! The patient who nominated Katie shared that she taught the family invaluable tips and tricks, empowering them with confidence to take their new baby home. Her infectious personality and humor put the family at ease, and they felt like she was caring for them as she would a member of her own family. The nomination read, “Katie went above and beyond caring for us and our little baby boy. Not only was Katie thorough and professional, but she also was funny and the best company during our long days here. She is the best care provider I have ever come across and an even better person!”

  • Grant D., who has been battling sarcoma with the help of the team at Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at Presbyterian/St. Luke's, along with his nurse navigator -- P/SL Program Manager/Nurse Navigator Mary McCormick, RN, BSN recently found a unique way to celebrate Sarcoma Awareness Month and another round of treatment: skydiving together. Mary explained, "If [he] can fight cancer like [he has], I can go skydiving." Read the story here: https://bit.ly/3X3qp3z

  • Way to go, Ami Miller, RN, NICU IV, who has been named a DAISY award winner! Her patient-written nomination describes how Ami lovingly cared for their 28-week twins, after a shocking and stressful arrival. The family describes Ami going above and beyond by providing scent cloths to place in the isolettes so the babies would become familiar with the parents’ scents; helping mom ‘dry breastfeed’ to help with later success of breastfeeding and always explaining what she was doing or why alarms were going off. “I truly don’t think our girls would have improved and graduated as quickly as they did without the extra care and support from nurse Ami.”

  • Nominated by patients and family members, our DAISY award winners are often recognized for their extraordinary care, and Barbara Lyons, RN, is no exception. As one of our parent educators, Barbara leads our weekly #breastfeeding support group, guiding new moms on their breastfeeding journey. When a 34-week pregnant woman attended the group, thinking it was a prenatal breastfeeding class, she became frustrated at her mistake. Barbara’s compassion shined through when she chose to spend an hour teaching and preparing the soon-to-be-mom for her breastfeeding experience. “She helped me a lot and answered all of my questions. She save my day and turned a bad experience into a good one.” #WorldBreastfeedingWeek

  • Congratulations to Adriana Adams, RN, in our Blood and Marrow Transplant Unit (BMT) for becoming a DAISY award recipient! The patient-written nomination highlighted many ways Adriana provided remarkable care, including taking on her patient’s request to mark out how many laps of the unit was equivalent to a mile (the unit was in a temporary space during renovations). Adriana not only helped measure and create signage, but she also created tracking sheets to mark mileage, creating community among the BMT patients. Her patient stated, “Adriana went to extraordinary lengths to mitigate my symptoms and to make my hospital stay less frightening and in many ways, enjoyable.”

  • Congratulations to Erin Wisian, RN, in the Denver Wound Healing Center on being named our Gold Star award winner for July! Erin was praised by one of our physicians as being “one of the best ostomy nurses in the state.” Her dedication to educating her patients and colleagues elevates the level of care delivered in the wound center, which in turn, prevents post-op complications and readmissions for one of our more fragile patient populations. Thank you, Erin, for caring like family!
