Prime Healthcare is proud to announce the expansion of our mission through the historic acquisition of nine Ascension Illinois hospitals and four associated care sites.    This acquisition will be the largest in the history of Prime Healthcare and the Prime Healthcare Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity, expanding our mission of serving communities and ensuring access to quality care for all to Illinois and the third largest metropolitan area in the nation, Chicago. Prime's dedication to quality care is nationally recognized, named among the Top 10 health systems, 100 Top Hospitals 69 times and America's Greatest Workplaces by Newsweek.   “Our agreement with Ascension reflects our decades-long mission of saving, improving and investing in community hospitals and we are excited to bring these Ascension Illinois facilities into our Prime Healthcare family, preserving our shared values and mutual commitment to patient-centered care,” said Sunny Bhatia, MD, MMM, President of Prime Healthcare.    "The Prime Healthcare Foundation shares with Ascension a mission of serving all with compassionate, quality care, especially those in greatest need. We are dedicated to serving and improving the health of communities, while ensuring health equity and access. We are honored to continue the legacy of service in Illinois," Kavitha Bhatia, MD, MMM, FAAP, FACHE, President Prime Healthcare Foundation.    The asset purchase agreement includes the following Ascension Illinois hospitals: Ascension Holy Family (Des Plaines), Ascension Mercy (Aurora), Ascension Resurrection (Chicago), Ascension Saint Francis (Evanston), Ascension Saint Joseph (Joliet), Ascension Saint Joseph (Elgin), Ascension Saint Mary (Kankakee) and Ascension Saint Mary and Saint Elizabeth (Chicago). The transaction also includes the following post-acute and senior living facilities currently operated by Ascension Living: Fox Knoll Village (Aurora), Villa Franciscan Place (Joliet), Heritage Village and Heritage Lodge (Kankakee) and Resurrection Place (Park Ridge).      As part of the acquisition, Prime Healthcare has committed $250 million to invest exclusively within these hospitals and care sites for substantial technology and systems investments, facility upgrades and capital improvements. St. Francis Medical Center, located in Lynwood, California, is celebrating its 4th anniversary as a member of Prime Healthcare. This landmark date is a dual milestone for the hospital honoring a 79-year legacy of compassionate, quality care and service to the community. Throughout the year, St. Francis Medical Center's team of healthcare heroes have received letters from patient "wins" – a teen able to return to playing her favorite sport after a devastating car accident, a newborn going home strong and healthy to mom and dad after a month in our NICU, a grandfather capable of clearly saying "I love you" to his grandchildren when a stroke threatened his ability to speak. What we sometimes overlook is that these day-to-day successes become year-over-year triumphs for our patients and their families. As their patients have highlighted, the St. Francis legacy of care runs parallel to the longevity of the many lives saved and well-lived; and this fourth anniversary as a member of Prime is a testament that their legacy lives on!

Prime Healthcare Hospitals Receive Top Marks in Lown Institute Hospitals Index!      Thirty-nine Prime Healthcare hospitals across 14 states received “A” grades in what really matters to patients – Patient Outcomes, Value of Care, Social Responsibility, and Health Equity. Further, nine hospitals ranked number one in their respective states and six hospitals made Honor Roll by achieving straight "A" grades in measurements of care.       “Social responsibility and health equity are at the core of our mission, and it is a privilege to support our communities with quality care,” said Sunny Bhatia, MD, MMM, Prime Healthcare President and Chief Medical Officer. “Thank you to all our caregivers for your steadfast commitment to improving the health and well-being of all those we serve.”        The Lown Institute Hospitals Index evaluates more than 2,700 acute care and 800 critical access hospitals nationwide. The 2024-25 Lown Index evaluates hospitals on over 50 metrics across health equity, value of care, and patient outcomes. Following our recent announcement of the acquisition of Ascension Illinois facilities, Prime Healthcare President Dr. Sunny Bhatia, MD, MMM was featured in Becker's Hospital Review in a story chronicling plans for the acquisition of the Ascension Illinois hospitals and an eye toward the future. This acquisition, anticipated to close in the first quarter of 2025, will be the largest in our 23-year history, expanding our network to more than 50 hospitals and extending our presence into one of the nation's largest metropolitan areas. "This transaction is unique in that it provides scale and therefore opportunity to create significant benefit to communities, patients, and Illinois," Dr. Bhatia said. Our commitment includes a $250 million investment in facility upgrades, technology, and service expansions to enhance patient care. Prime Healthcare has also committed to making offers of employment to substantially all associates, ensuring continuity of care and service. St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, California, a valued member of the Prime Healthcare family, recently shared a story that captures how Prime's hospitals and communities we serve go above and beyond to positively impact others. While shopping for school backpacks for her grandchildren this week, a longtime resident of the community recalled that the very first backpack her daughter used for school was the one she received at a St. Francis Medical Center health fair 16 years ago. St. Francis filled it with school supplies, and her family was grateful. In this same spirit, the woman returned to the hospital yesterday carrying four new backpacks brimming with spiral notebooks, paper, composition books, crayons, markers, erasers, and fun stickers. She said she never forgot how much that first backpack meant to her daughter and family and asked that these backpacks be given to new families who might need a little extra help as the school year begins. We are so proud of the legacy of community support brought forth by the residents surrounding St. Francis.
