PRO Youth & Families

On 8/22, our Youth & Family Collective (YFC) team held a culminating virtual Youth Celebration for the most recent cohort of the Youth Engagement Squad (YES!) project. Nearly 100 people joined the call to celebrate various youth projects created over the past few months. The 8 community-based organizations partnering with the YFC supported the youth to create projects which illustrate lessons learned throughout the project, including skits, podcasts, and presentations representing their newfound knowledge of relationship skills for love, life, and work. Our three main areas of work at PRO Youth & Families are Mental Wellness, Youth Voice, and Collective Impact, with hope being the central theme that ties them all together. Here’s what our areas of work mean to us: 💚 Mental Wellness: PRO is committed to connecting young people with safe spaces that promote well-being and belonging. Our mental wellness and relationship skills programs educate and equip youth with tools to build a healthy future for themselves, their peers, and the communities around them. 📣 Youth Voice: Through youth advisory boards, civic engagement, and leadership programs, young people are provided a platform to share their voices and develop solutions for important issues that affect youth. These programs encourage collaboration among peers and key leaders, fostering a culture of positive change and self-determination. 🧡 Collective Impact: PRO’s collective impact initiative, the Youth & Family Collective (YFC) develops collaborative community projects to support youth and the community nonprofits who serve them. The YFC has partnered with over 70 organizations in Greater Sacramento and distributed over $6 million in youth project stipends and administrative funding for community-based organizations. Using shared tools and infrastructure, the YFC supports the capacity of nonprofits to help young people to learn, earn, and thrive.

We’re so excited that our mentoring program is coming BACK next week! Highschool students at Encina Highschool & San Juan Highschool will have the opportunity to mentor Elementary students at Greer & Skycrest Elementary schools. We’re thrilled to announce that we will have Fall & Spring cohorts this year, providing more flexibility and more opportunities for students to participate. The highschoolers will receive social & emotional learning training to help them with their mentees! The mentors in this program will also receive a stipend for participating. The program begins on September 4th at Encina HS, and September 10th at San Juan. For more information, contact Mariah at [email protected].

Last week, we raised funds to support youth in our communities as they go back to school. This school year, we’re expanding our programming to reach more youth with our mental wellness, relationship skills, and substance misuse prevention programs. We are excited to share that Sacramento City Council recently approved a grant to continue funding the #Futures cannabis prevention & education program for Sacramento youth. PRO and the City of Sacramento work collaboratively to lead a network of community-based organizations to guide youth through the curriculum, giving them paid opportunities to gain practical skills, serve their community, explore career goals, and learn about marijuana prevention. We have been involved with this programming since 2020 and are thrilled to keep it going and serve more youth in our community! Learn more: https://lnkd.in/evSRj5kC
