Has your firm had to abandon a project this year? As of July, construction abandonments were up 11% nationally for both public and private projects compared to the same time last year and up almost 49% for private projects alone, according to the latest Project Stress Index. The index tracks preconstruction projects that experienced a delayed bid date, were placed on hold, or have been abandoned in the last 30 days. #CRE #realestatedevelopment

According MBA's latest commercial real estate finance (CREF) Loan Performance Survey, 97.0% of outstanding commercial mortgage loan balances were current or less than 30 days late at the end of the quarter, up from 96.8% in the first quarter of 2024. Only office properties showed an increase in delinquencies. #CRE

While the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development guaranteed 116 multifamily and healthcare loans with a balance of $2.64 billion during its third fiscal quarter, it's down nearly 8% from the same period a year ago. If the current trend continues, the result would be its lowest annual volume in at least 12 years.

For the first time since 2021, the inflation rate has fallen below 3%. In July, the rate cooled to 2.9% Core inflation rose 3.2%, While it signals a future rate cut in September, we have to wait until August 30 when the Fed's preferred inflation measure, the personal consumption expenditures index, will be released.
