Last night, we attended an inspiring event on women's health and well-being with guest speakers from various sectors, including OB-GYNs and health tech CEOs. Rita Health was represented by our wonderul Lizellen La Follette, MD Highlights included a presentation from Olympic skiing champion & Founder, Jennifer Heil, an intense discussion about the contraceptive pill, breathwork run by a wellness coach Meghan Van Metre and a mandate from our Lizellen that women are responsible for understanding that the menstrual cycle is not just a period. We have a full cycle with hormonal changes, specifics, ovulation, and treating that like a vital sign instead of just a couple of days when we use pads or tampons is the right reframe. My question from the session was, what is really the research that would fundamentally push women's health forward? It couldn't have come more timely, with last night's announcements of The White House -President Office Jill Biden's investment of $12 billion in new funding for women's health research to advance an interdisciplinary research agenda. This aims to create a new nationwide network of research centers of excellence and innovation in women's health and to catalyze private and philanthropic commitments to increase funding for women's health research in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. What am I looking forward to in 2024? Growing up, I wasn't certain whether I wanted to be an engineer or a doctor. Having parents who are both engineers, I was destined to become one too ;) Yet, my heart leaned toward medicine. Most of the projects I was already doing back at the university were at the intersection of technology and life science: an uber-precise scientific microscope with Sergio Cuadrado, a futuristic stethoscope with Anthony Douglas, and a medication packaging supply chain under Mark Phillips. I'm really excited to see how technology is helping women in so many ways, and how we at Rita Health are doing our part. Here are our top five priorities for the year: 1. Finding Signals: We're unlocking visibility into the hundreds of data markers that define women's fertility health. By studying data points from both healthy and unhealthy women, we provide precise recommendations for fertility preservation. 🧬 2. Predicting Proactively: Our AI system for fertility preservation combines world-class medical and scientific expertise. We identify patterns not always apparent to humans, reducing clinical and population biases. This is vital for underserved populations, ensuring more inclusive and accessible healthcare solutions. 📈 3. Removing Biases: Our AI fertility system collects a comprehensive and diverse dataset on women's fertility. It creates personalized fertility self-assessments based on over 100 individual parameters, akin to having thousands of biologically similar friends offering advice. 🌍 4. Bringing Knowledge: A fertility chatbot, built on Rita’s knowledge graph and OpenAI's API, provides immediate, confidential support with medically accurate information. It simplifies complex clinical information, helping women make informed decisions about their reproductive health. 💬 5. Allowing Access: In the US, with 3.6M women giving birth annually, the strain on 23K ObGyns and 1.3K Reproductive Endocrinologists is immense. AI not only increases the patient capacity for medical professionals but also promotes proactive healthcare. It aids in early disease detection, preventing irreversible damage. 🏥 The current AI revolution is fundamentally transforming healthcare in diagnosis, patient centricity, precision medicine, and access. We're committed to making a significant impact in these areas this year. 🚀 Holistic fertility preservation is vital for women's emotional health and balancing career and family planning. It enhances quality of life by offering reproductive autonomy, emotional well-being, and career support. ❤️ It's reassuring to see the White House recognizing the need for innovation in women’s healthcare and research.
