Today we celebrate #Juneteenth, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, by reflecting on the triumphs and challenges that form our shared history while celebrating the freedom, resilience and achievements of the Black community. As we observe this important historical milestone in American History, Baron Lowe, RPh, MBA, HCM, Vice President of Market Access shares the personal and ancestral significance of Juneteenth, dating back to 1844. "In 1844, when Abraham Lincoln was a 35-year-old lawyer, my great-grandfather Levi Lowe was born into slavery as a second-generation Tennessean. He was a direct beneficiary of Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 and the Thirteenth Amendment in 1865, which turned Lincoln’s executive order into national policy. Levi is buried not far from where I live in Manchester, Tenn. As a free man, Levi fathered Leonard Lowe, Sr., my grandfather, in 1918. He instilled in him the will to overcome the odds through hard work. My grandfather was Superman in my eyes. He was a church elder and the nucleus in the large and loving Lowe family. Born in 1941, my father Leonard Lowe, Jr. (aka Superman II) personified dedication as a nuclear power plant supervisor during the day and by working our hog farm late into the night. Against all odds, these men not only survived… they thrived. If they were alive today and afforded the world that I enjoy, they would possibly encourage me to lead my family with strength, to support my church and community, and to capitalize on all the opportunities that their sacrifices have provided to me. As a fifth-generation Tennessean who is actively raising the sixth generation… I hear you, and I will!"

Diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) are foundational to the way we operate. This June, and every day, we’re honored to celebrate love and equality and recognize the vibrant contributions of the LGBTQ+ community. Our DEIB theme to celebrate this month, “Pride: It Means More!” places emphasis on how all of us play a role in fostering a culture of empathy, compassion and allyship. Standing in unity with our LGBTQ+ colleagues, customers and communities sends a powerful message that discrimination and prejudice have no place within our workplace and our stores. Together, we can create a more inclusive world. Happy #Pride! 🏳🌈

We recognize the importance of Hepatitis Awareness Month, bringing attention to the viruses that affect more than three million people each year in the U.S. Throughout the month, we’re providing educational opportunities for our pharmacists to learn more about viral hepatitis so our teams can provide even more personalized care to eligible customers. Many infections causing hepatitis – specifically Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B — are preventable by a vaccine and are recommended for all infants, all children or adolescents younger than 19 years of age who have not been vaccinated, and all adults aged 19 through 59 years. Our pharmacists are available to address ongoing health concerns and can provide counsel on protection against relevant viruses. Learn more: https://ritea.id/44BQb0Z
