  • Meet Christine Moore - A Dedicated Advocate for First Responders Christine Moore, the executive director of external affairs at AT&T, the provider of #FirstNet - America’s public safety communications platform, has been instrumental in leveraging technology to enhance the work of first responders. Her close collaboration with public safety partners has allowed her to witness the transformative power of technology in improving outcomes for first responders. Late last year, Christine’s family faced an unimaginable crisis when her mother suffered a massive seizure and stopped breathing. In that terrifying moment, Christine performed CPR while her husband communicated with 911. The swift response from the #SDFD and #SDPD was nothing short of miraculous. Their expertise and commitment saved her mother’s life, giving Christine and her family six more precious months with her before she passed away in April. Experiences like these drive Christine’s dedication to continually learning and communicating how to better serve local heroes. Having a son who is a first responder also fuels her passion for service to those who give so much of themselves to protect and care for our community. We are incredibly grateful to have Christine on our board. #FirstResponders #CommunityHeroes #PublicSafety #Gratitude #SanDiego #firefighters

  • With deep sadness, we share the passing of our beloved board member, Andy Thomas. Andy's warmth, generosity, and dedication to our community were unmatched. He was a cherished leader, colleague, and friend whose impact will be felt for years. Our hearts go out to his family and all who were lucky enough to know him. Andy’s life will be celebrated on September 7th at the Lodge at Torrey Pines.

  • What an honor to join the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, Jack and Jill of America Inc. San Diego, Jackie Robinson Family YMCA, and the Lincoln High School Basketball team today at the launch of the "4 The Heart of Swimming" program. Research shows over 79% of children in low-income families have little to no swimming ability. Teaching children how to be safe around water is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Drowning can happen in as little as 20-60 seconds. Improving these statistics is a top priority for the #YMCA. #watersafety #SDFD #preventdrowning

  • We have so much to be thankful for this #ThankfulThursday! Thanks to a $50K grant from the San Diego River Conservancy, we can provide a second set of drysuits for San Diego lifeguards. By replacing worn-out gear, we're minimizing their exposure to potential hazards and ensuring they can carry out their duties safely. Did you know that over half of their personal flotation devices (PFD) have surpassed their life expectancy? Having a backup PFD is as crucial as having a spare dry suit. Thank you, San Diego River Conservancy, for helping us better protect the men and women working diligently to protect our community.

  • The San Diego Fire-Rescue Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Vice-Chair for its Board of Directors.   Marcela Escobar-Eck, the President/CEO of the Atlantis Group, will serve as the Board's new Vice-Chair. She has over 30 years of service with local government agencies – most recently as Director of Development Services for the City of San Diego – until she founded the Atlantis Group, a land use and strategic planning consulting firm.    During her tenure with the City of San Diego and as Planning Director for the City of Carlsbad, she led several multi-year community engagement programs, including redeveloping the Naval Training Center and several other complex policy initiatives. She also designed and implemented several unique dialogue workshops between the City and various stakeholder groups, such as the development community, to build better relationships and resolve conflicts.   "I am privileged to become part of the respected Board of Directors at the San Diego Fire-Rescue Foundation," said Escobar-Eck. "I look forward to collaborating with fellow board members and the organization's leadership and actively contributing to its ongoing growth and success."   “As our board Vice President, Marcela will serve a crucial role within the organization,” said Wendy Robinson, executive director of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Foundation. "Her background and skillset will provide valuable experience and insight into a successful organizational structure, helping all board members to contribute their expertise and drive initiatives forward to benefit the Foundation as a whole.”   “She will be a key representative for the Board and will be very successful in representing its interest and mission in various forums,” she added.   Ms. Escobar-Eck will serve a three-year term through 2027.
