Eba has a nose for conservation. This very good girl is specially trained to sniff out killer whale fecal matter off the coast of the Pacific Northwest that is collected by researchers at Wild Orca and shipped to San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance's Reproductive Science team for further analysis. By studying hormone levels found in the samples, scientists can learn more about whale health, reproduction, and behavior to better inform conservation efforts in the ocean. #internationaldogday #collaborativeconservation #sandiegozoowildlifealliance

San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is a nonprofit international conservation leader, committed to inspiring passion for nature and creating a world where all life thrives. The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance (SDZWA) empowers people from around the globe to support their mission to conserve wildlife through innovation and partnerships. SDZWA supports cutting-edge conservation and brings the stories of their work back to two world-famous facilities, the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park—giving millions of guests, in person and virtually, the opportunity to experience conservation in action. The work of SDZWA extends from San Diego to strategic and regional conservation “hubs” across the globe, where their strengths—via their “Conservation Toolbox,” including the renowned Wildlife Biodiversity Bank—are able to effectively align with hundreds of regional partners to improve outcomes for wildlife in more coordinated efforts. By leveraging these tools in wildlife care and conservation science, and through collaboration with hundreds of partners, SDZWA has reintroduced more than 44 endangered species to native habitats. Each year, San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance's work reaches over 1 billion people in 150 countries via news media, social media, their websites, educational resources and the San Diego Zoo Kids channel, which is in children’s hospitals in 13 countries. Success is made possible by the support of members, donors and guests to the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park, who are Wildlife Allies committed to ensuring All Life Thrives.

Last year, when the Olinda fire arrived at the front doorstep of the Maui Bird Conservation Center, our own Jennifer Pribble did her best to control the flames until firefighters arrived. The U.S. Department of Interior has presented her and more than two dozen firefighters from the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife with its Citizens Award for Exceptional Service. Thank you, Jennifer, and each firefighter whose dedicated and sustained efforts protected the Maui Bird Conservation Center, its passionate people, and the endangered Hawaiian forest birds who the team works hard every day to safeguard their future. Through your selfless acts, you have made it possible for the conservation work inside to continue. Together, we share the goal of one day seeing these beautiful and culturally significant birds safely return to their forest homes. https://lnkd.in/dk2nhDaG

San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance won the Community Choice Award thanks to our collaborative killer whale conservation work with NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration and other partners during the 2024 #Tech4Wildlife Photo Challenge hosted by WILDLABS Community. This award is a testament to the incredible team in the field and the lab utilizing innovative drone technology to better understand the behavior of Southern Resident killer whales in their native habitat.

Enter the world of giant pandas 🐼. Step into the newly designed Panda Ridge at the San Diego Zoo and find yourself immersed in a bamboo forest, transported into the world of China's giant pandas. Inspiration for these habitats is drawn from the giant pandas’ native habitats in Sichuan, Gansu, and Shaanxi provinces. Their newly expanded and naturalistic spaces feature lush grasses and trees, climbing structures, and a water feature, offering a glimpse into the world of these iconic bears. Panda Ridge reflects our ongoing commitment to conservation and education, providing an immersive experience for visitors while promoting awareness of our panda conservation efforts. We cannot wait for you to experience Panda Ridge for yourself! Read more about Panda Ridge here: https://lnkd.in/gDSJ94cv. #pandaridge #giantpandas #conservation #SanDiegoZoo

It was an honor to have Chip with us for several months as we prepared for the arrival of Yun Chuan and Xin Bao. Bringing giant pandas to San Diego was no easy task. It required hard work, meticulous planning, and (more than a little) optimism. An amazing example of this, and my favorite callout from this article, is our task force that we brought to life to help us identify all risks to achieving our goal and then working as a team to make miracles happen. That level of detail and dedication was crucial to the success of our plan. Enjoy this inside look at what it took to open Panda Ridge. https://lnkd.in/gEp2bs5W

Only by working together can real and lasting change be achieved. We are so grateful for the partnerships of Ambassador Xie Feng and Governor Newsom and their ongoing support in making this moment possible. The opening of Panda Ridge, and the arrival of Yun Chuan and Xin Bao, marks a significant milestone in our journey toward a world where all life thrives. #PanDiego #SanDiegoZoo
