📣 Important news for recordkeepers and plan sponsors 📣 The IRS has just released interim guidance on how 401(k) and retirement plans can properly include employer contribution matches for qualified student loan payments (QSLPs) made by employees. This update is welcome guidance for recordkeepers and plan sponsors, offering clear direction on implementation practices. One important aspect of this guidance is the certification process. The IRS requires detailed information such as loan amount, date of the loan, confirmation that the payment was made to the employee, whether the loan qualifies for higher education expenses, and verification that the employee incurred the loan. Fortunately, this certification can be done by a third party. Summer works with recordkeepers and plan sponsors by transforming this admin-heavy process into a seamless experience that takes less than a minute.
