Schmidt Design Group is honored to have been awarded a Design (Video) Award of Excellence from the SMPS San Diego Palm Awards! In 2023, Schmidt Design Group leadership collaborated with local videographer Todd Prodanovich to craft ”Our Story | Celebrating Positive Change.” Debuting at our 40th anniversary party, the video speaks to the legacy of our work and the evolution of our leadership. Sharing the video across our social media and web-based platforms, we were amazed by the response from the community! We are so grateful to those who engaged with the video and reached out to our staff, providing us with opportunities to connect with you and your teams. Haven’t seen it yet? We are thrilled to announce the groundbreaking of Beyer Park! This new, 8-acre community park is the first park to be built in the community of San Ysidro in 25 years! Initial planning and approvals for the park began as early as 1974. Through the collaborative efforts of community members and residents, City staff, and the design team, Beyer Park fulfills a promise 50-years in the making. Expected to open to the public in Spring of 2026, Phase 1 of Beyer Park will offer the community a diverse range of activities including a children’s play area, skate park, picnic areas, restrooms, walking trails, and public art to a community in need of greater open space access. Phase 2 will add ball fields, a dog park, and additional walking trails. As Mayor Todd Gloria noted in his address, “No community is complete without abundant parks.” Thank you to everyone who helped make this park a reality! The crew at Torrey Pines Fire Station installed a specimen Torrey Pine on site last week! The Torrey Pine is the rarest pine in the United States, with only about 5,000 individuals growing wild along the coast of Northern San Diego County. 19-feet tall and 14-feet wide at installation, the pine is expected to reach up to 50-feet tall when fully mature. The Torrey Pine creates an eye-catching entryway into the site, grounded in the unique and iconic landscape of San Diego! We’re thrilled to be a part of the The City of San Diego, The Miller Hull Partnership, LLP, and Level 10 Construction team helping to craft this beautiful and sustainable new fire station. #TorreyPinesFireStation #TorreyPine #TorreyPines #TreeInstallation #ConstructionUpdate

What a fun night sharing the many stories of Fox Point Farms with the incomparable Brian Grover and Brittany Guarino. Thanks to the San Diego Architectural Foundation (SDAF) for the opportunity!
What a night for San Diego Architectural Foundation (SDAF). We had another SOLD OUT event with 160 people who registered for Taste of Design at Fox Point Farms in Encinitas. Fox Point Farms is home to Haven Farm + Table and Fox Point Brewing Co. and is an organic regenerative farm that is the centerpiece of a planned community revolving around agriculture. This space is amazing and encourage all who missed this event to head north to experience. This is the perfect combination of public and community space created with natural and local materials. The bites provided by Haven were delicious and used fresh ingredients from their onsite farm. Thank you to Brian Grover Brittany Guarino and JT Barr, PLA, ASLA for the great presentations and allowing us to tour the site. Learn more about Fox Point Farms www.foxpointfarms.com What is Taste of Design? This is a program which celebrates the union of design and food. Did you miss out? Fear not, SDAF has more great events coming up. Sign up today for a free or VIP membership. www.sdarchitecture.org

We were thrilled to see the unveiling of the beautiful new artwork at the El Portal Pedestrian Undercrossing! Generously funded by the City of Encinitas, the 17-panels of vibrant mosaics capture the history of the city and its residents, and were a collaborative effort between Paul Ecke Central Elementary School, San Dieguito Academy, non-profit art studio Campana Studios, and SDA art teacher Jeremy Wright. “This is a legacy project that our kids are going to be able to come back to and say, ‘I was a decision maker on this; I had my thumb printed there,” said Paul Ecke Elementary Principal Wesley Sechrest. The unveiling of the artwork marks the completion of the undercrossing project, which opened in 2022. We are proud to have been a part of the design team for this impactful project, led by the talented Engineers at TYLin. The El Portal undercrossing provides an essential pathway for Encinitas residents and visitors to safely traverse the railway that bisects the city, particularly for the numerous students who now use the path to safely travel to and from school every day.
