It is with deep sorrow, but zero regret, that I am announcing the shuttering of SKIP beyond content, LLC. SKIP was the brainchild of my former business partner, Steve Williams, who unexpectedly passed away last December. Steve's vision was to build a marketing consultancy that could provide extremely high-level strategic advice and world-class creative execution for a small number of entrepreneurial clients who wanted to move fast and were willing to experiment. Steve’s mantra was always, “Don’t let perfection be the enemy of good.” and it served us well. We launched SKIP in November of 2019, brought in our first client in January of 2020 and were off to the races. Along the way, we met many inspirational leaders, makers and rulebreakers, joined forces with a select number of impressive collaborators, learned about several fascinating business models and made a whole bunch of friends. When Steve died, I spent months exploring every option to keep SKIP going, but the hard truth is that he was irreplaceable. My heartfelt thanks to all of our clients, partners and friends who made the past four years the most enjoyable and interesting of my career, including, Joshua Pawlak, Christopher Battisti, MBA, Helen Battisti, Joseph Agliato, Analiese DeZenzo, Roy Yang, Nathan Crenshaw, Ricky Merchant, AMP, Jeff Sager, Shae Wilkins, Andrea Allen, Joseph McEvoy, Philip D'Amelia, Luká Yancopoulos, Emma Davies, William Pundyk, Frank Angiolelli, Scott Walsh, Alison Farber, Atia Black, Kate DeGroot ✨, Adrienne Uthe, Magnus Sepp, Colton Wilkinson, Ronald Berry III and so many more who were instrumental to our success. SKIP beyond content may be no more but Steve's influence lives on in all of the great work we produced and the people we worked with. So, in the words of those erudite philosophers Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, "Any major dude with half a heart surely will tell you my friend Any minor world that breaks apart falls together again" More to come...

It's conference season...and I've had the opportunity to talk to content creators from all types of industries and outside countries. As expected, social traffic to websites has dropped off a cliff (I found this chart that also makes this claim). There is the start of a movement going on. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's a serious move away from big tech. Basically, how can creators and content marketers survive and thrive WITHOUT relying on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X, TikTok and Amazon? There is no perfect answer (yet), but the successful content creator of the future seems to have: - A robust and growing email newsletter - A podcast that keeps fans loyal and wanting more - A website where products are sold directly and not through third-party sites - A few key partnerships with brands who are willing to support the creator with multiple projects. I'm curious if you are seeing the same things???
