This year’s competition, which is the biggest H2GP event ever, will feature over 40 teams from 13 countries battling for a chance to be crowned World Champion. We hosted a Latina Empowerment Day at our Energy Resource Center in Downey. This one-day workshop series was created to empower Latinas to increase their community impact and strengthen their skills. Participants also had the chance to tour the [H2] Innovation Experience. Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE)

How did Wallace Rawls go from rolling through the streets of Los Angeles in tanks during the LA Riots to serving on the Board of the LAFD Foundation?  It’s a story of a relentless work ethic, a desire to impact his community, and a unique perspective shaped by military service and career growth. After high school, Rawls joined the Army, then the California National Guard, where he was activated during the LA Riots—a formative experience. While serving, he built a successful career at SoCalGas, rising through the ranks from an entry-level position to director roles in safety and emergency management. Along the way, he earned his MBA and honed his leadership skills through entrepreneurial ventures. Rawls’s path led him to join the LAFD Foundation Board, where his military and safety expertise have proven invaluable. His commitment to collaboration between SoCal Gas and the LAFD enhances public safety during emergencies like wildfires.
