Since 1996, the Southeast Michigan Community Alliance (SEMCA) has been a leader in workforce development programs, serving residents and employers in Wayne and Monroe counties (excluding the city of Detroit). SEMCA is the region's Michigan Works! Agency (MWA), with seven Michigan Works Service Centers located in Dearborn, Grosse Pointe, Highland Park, Livonia, Monroe, Southgate, and Wayne. SEMCA Michigan Works! recently hosted Susan Corbin, Director of the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, as part of her statewide workforce roadshow. The visit focused on strengthening relationships with local Michigan Works! boards, presenting the statewide workforce plan, and discussing its integration into local strategies. Director Corbin met with the SEMCA Workforce Development Board and participated in a productive roundtable discussion led by SEMCA CEO Gregory Pitoniak. The roundtable also included Corbin, State Senator Mary Cavanaugh, SEMCA Workforce Development Board Chair Charlie Mahoney, and local business leaders, addressing workforce challenges and exploring potential solutions. Director Corbin provided valuable insights on collaboration and highlighted the key objectives of the statewide plan.
