Start Small Think Big is a nonprofit that helps small business owners from marginalized communities with limited access to the resources needed to create thriving businesses. We partner with small business owners and their communities to provide free legal, finance and marketing assistance, building connections, and always judging our success by theirs. Our small business owners, partners, and volunteers are united in their determination to make a difference — one far greater than they could alone. In the past five years alone, Start Small Think Big has engaged over 7,000 skills-based volunteers who have provided over $50MM in pro bono services to 5,000+ small business owners. In the first year of working with Start Small Think Big, entrepreneurs see their business revenue increase by 50% or more. We’re #allforsmall. Because small businesses make a big difference. Apply today to become a client or a volunteer and join our small business community.

Treasures Unleashed is a California-based, family-owned business that uses the power of creative arts to heal, empower, and bring communities together. Founded by Dorothy Dominique, a passionate visionary from Petite Riviere De Nippes, Haiti, the company focuses on helping both youth and adults discover the strength within themselves. Dorothy’s journey began with healing her own inner child and reconnecting with her true self. This experience inspired her to create a space where others could do the same. Through year-round programs, mentorship, and community events, Treasures Unleashed is helping people find and share their authentic selves through the arts. With a deep commitment to family, unity, and personal growth, Treasures Unleashed is dedicated to giving individuals a platform to be seen, heard, and empowered. Their mission is clear: to help each person unleash the treasure within. We're so grateful for Michael Pastor, and the work he does to support small businesses. He definitely plays a role in keeping them *running* (running, you get it?)
Director, Tricarico Institute for the Business of Law and In-House Counsel | Co-Director, Innovation Center for Law and Technology | Professor from Practice @ New York Law School
On November 3, I'll be running the New York City Marathon, my first attempt at this distance, to raise funds for Start Small Think Big, an organization that does amazing work in support of the inspiring people who have the bravery and tenacity to start a small business from scratch. Start Small provides those individuals free legal, marketing, and financial services (all provided by amazing volunteers) so those business owners can get off the ground, thrive, and even grow as employers. My thanks in advance if you can support my run and this cause via this link: https://lnkd.in/dzMCU9BS #AllforSmall #StartSmall

As we wrap up Black Business Month, we’re excited to continue the talk on Black entrepreneurs. So, let us introduce to you Elizabeth Lewis. Not only is she the founder and CEO of Brand, Style & Bloom, Elizabeth Lewis is also a certified personal stylist, a professional branding expert, and marketing genius. Elizabeth also holds a Masters in Business Administration from the NYU Stern School of Business, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis, and is an alumnus of Goldman Sachs’ One Million Black Women: Black in Business program. How amazing is she? While there is limited demographic data on personal stylists, Zippia (https://lnkd.in/ePRhzBXn) reports that while there are nearly 12,384 personal stylists employed in the United States, only 12.2% of them are Black, in comparison 60.9% of them are white. That’s why it’s important to highlight Elizabeth and the work that she does in a disproportionately white field. We believe that representation of people of color, and in this case, Black individuals — not only in personal styling, but in all professional and public spaces — normalizes the reality that everyone is able to thrive, grow, and simply *be* anywhere and everywhere. We’re excited for you to read Elizabeth’s wisdom and insights. Read her interview below.
