Most patients don't realize their race is used in dozens of clinical algorithms/calculators/shortcuts that doctors rely on to guide care, meaning that literally, Black patients can be deemed less likely to have a disease simply because of their race. Today at STAT we are launching a series called "Embedded Bias" examining this issue, from how race came to be used in these tools, how that may cause harm and increase disparities, and why race is proving so difficult to remove. I'm so proud of this work I did with my incredible colleague Katie Palmer, and hope you'll dig in. New stories will release each day. https://lnkd.in/g_TjbAre
