In 1980, Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. Two years later, that promise became the Susan G. Komen® organization and the beginning of a global movement. For over 40 years, we've led the way funding groundbreaking research, community health initiatives and advocacy programs in local communities across the U.S. and in more than 30 countries. And with your help, we’ll continue pushing for progress to end breast cancer every day, until it’s a thing of the past. A new study published last week “suggests that there is absolutely no difference in (breast cancer) survival if you have a lumpectomy, a mastectomy or a double mastectomy,” when cancer is found in one breast, said Dr. Eric Winer, director of the Yale Cancer Center and a former Komen Chief Scientific Advisor, in this piece from The New York Times. They noted, however, the study does not apply to those who have an inherited genetic mutation that increases their breast cancer risk. The article also explains that "these decisions are complex" for breast cancer patients and should be discussed with their doctors. https://nyti.ms/3yfwIYt
