I felt like I'd been hit by a truck: lots of fatigue, brain fog, I even felt my left shin hurting during a pedicure. After doing a series of tests, I realized I had an issue with my parathyroid glands. My family and friends thought I was crazy for flying to Florida for surgery when I have a world-renowned hospital system in my area! But I'd heard about Dr. Politz from lots of women in an online parathyroid support community - he'd done over 8,000 of these surgeries and suggested a procedure for my hyperparathyroidism that was more thorough than what my local surgeon had proposed. Dr. Politz and I got started through a teleconference, then for the surgery I flew to Florida on a Sunday, had the procedure on Monday and flew home on Tuesday! I feel great now. I feel sharper and more energetic, I'm not getting hit with the fatigue like I was. I'm so glad I trusted my gut! You have to advocate for your own health." -Rosa Flickinger, Patient Rosa is just one of the thousands of patients who have traveled to receive care from Dr. Doug Politz, MD, Co-Director of the TGH Parathyroid & Thyroid Institute and one of the most experienced parathyroid surgeons in the world today. #ParathyroidAwarenessMonth #WeAreTGH Learn more: www.TGH.org/Parathyroid

Santa just made a special summer stop at TGH! We're officially halfway to Christmas this week, and we're celebrating in a BIG way. Trading in his sleigh for a day, Santa, along with the local Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) SWAT team and FBI Tampa Citizens Academy Alumni Association, paid us a visit in the Bearcat Assault Vehicle to deliver toys to our young patients at the Muma Children's Hospital. A huge thanks to their entire team and our incredible Child Life Specialists who made this magical day possible.
